Trade Paperback Original. Condición: Fine. Second Printing. Appears to be new and unread. The copyright page lists no additional printings but does not have the "First Edition" statement that true firsts have. Book is winner of the $40,000 Griffin Prize for poetry given annually to a Canadian writing in English. Five weeks on the Globe & Mail bestseller list for fiction (one of 10), and into at least 14 printings, quite an accomplishment for a book of poetry.

Libro Original o primera edición
Soft cover. Condición: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st printing of the first Canadian edition. First Edition stated on the copyright page. Winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize. A small format paperback original in glossy card covers. This copy is crisp and unread with sharp corners. The first edition has gone into at least 20 printings and sold 20,000 copies. It was a national Top 10 bestseller in Canada, and one of the book's chapters was featured in Harper's Magazine in June 2006. "Eunoia" means "beautiful thinking", and it's the shortest English word to contain all five vowels. Eunoia is a univocal lipogram, in which each chapter restricts itself to the use of a single vowel (the letter A, appearing only in the first section; the letter E, appearing only in the second section, etc.). Eunoia also operates according to several subsidiary rules. For instance, each chapter must allude self-reflexively to the act of writing, describe a feast, a prurient debauch, a nautical journey, and a pastoral landscape. From Chapter I: "Pilgrims, digging in shifts, dig till midnight in mining pits, chipping flint with picks, drilling schist with drills, striking it rich mining zinc. Irish firms, hiring micks whilst firing Brits, bring in smiths with mining skills: kilnwrights grilling brick in brick kilns, millwrights grinding grist in gristmills. Irish tinsmiths, fiddling with widgits, fix this rig, driving its drills which spin whirring drillbits. I pitch in, fixing things. I rig this winch with its wiring; I fit this drill with its piping. I dig this ditch, filling bins with dirt, piling it high, sifting it, till I find bright prisms twinkling with glitz." The publisher, Coach House, is a highly respected independent which has published the poetry of Michael Ondaatje, Anne Michaels and Michael Redhill. An autographed 1st printing of this title is also available from this bookseller. Canadian orders will be charged GST.
