Quarto, softbound (stiff photo. illus. wrappers), 131 pp. Fine. From lower cover: Step back in time to pioneer settlers, blacksmiths, and the invention of refrigeration; to the famous actors, authors, athletes, and artists who frequented a throbbing philanthropic and business community. It is a past filled with romance and community spirit. Meet the cast of characters who shaped this illustrious history. Sarasota and the surrounding Gulf Coast communities from Tampa to Warm Mineral Springs have a colorful history dating back to the mid-1800s. Bernice Brooks Bergen has captured the people, places, and events that have shaped the area's incredible development from a sleepy fishing village to a world renown resort. Over eighty photographs from private and public collections bring her stories to life. Bernice Brooks Bergen shares her insight from the perspective of someone who has watched the changes since 1939. Her lively writing style, personal experiences, and love for the area, are presented in over 200 " Times Past" newspaper columns. Readers can now experience the best of this collection through Sarasota Times Past. Florida, Floridiana, Florida History, Americana, American History, U.S.-iana, U. S. History. yslic.
