A Very Good, almost Near Fine copy. Henri Borel's interpretation of Laozi's philosophies. Borel clearly notes in the Preface that this book is inspired by Laozi but is not a direct embodiment of Laozi's principles. There are three sections, "Tao," "Art," and "Love." Laozi (romanized as Lao Tzu, Lao-Tse, and in many different ways) was a semi-legendary Chinese philosopher. He is considered by many to be the founder of Taoism. According to traditional accounts, Laozi was born Li Er in the state of Chu during the sixth century BCE, served as a royal archivist for the Zhou Dynasty, met Confucius on one occasion, and wrote his famous classic, Tao Te Ching, before retiring in the wilderness. Henri Borel (1869-1933) was a Dutch author and journalist. He was an ardent enthusiast of Chinese culture and worked in China for some time. It is said that he considered Wu Wei to be his best work. English translation from the original Dutch by Meredith Ianson.
