Hard Cover Full Gloss. Condición: As New. No Jacket. ### CONSTABLE: Pictures from the Exhibition by Leslie Paris: TATE Gallery1991### ## THIS BOOK: Classified as AS NEW is the 1991 First Edition. The book was first published in 1991 and is as new as possible; it would be classified as NEW, except it has had a previous owner. The Jacket has The Wheatfield with the title in red and black ink. Over thirty Constables illustrations of his paintings are all in full colour with descriptions, and at the rear of the book is a chronological list ## READ ON for more information and details.## ## In 1991, the Tate Gallery in London hosted a remarkable exhibition titled "CONSTABLE: Pictures from the Exhibition," curated by Leslie Paris. This exhibition showcased the works of John Constable, one of Britain's most celebrated landscape painters. The exhibition comprehensively displayed Constable's artistic journey, featuring his most iconic works alongside lesser-known pieces. It provided an in-depth look into Constable's creative process, his inspirations, and the evolution of his style.## ## Leslie Paris, the exhibition curator, meticulously arranged the artworks to highlight Constable's unique approach to landscape painting. Paris's insightful commentary and interpretation of Constable's works added depth to the exhibition, allowing visitors to appreciate the nuances of Constable's artistry.## ## "CONSTABLE: Pictures from the Exhibition" was more than just an art exhibition; it celebrated John Constable's enduring legacy. Curated by Leslie Paris, the exhibition offered a profound exploration of Constable's art, providing a window into the artist's world and his love for the English countryside. It remains a landmark event in the history of the Tate Gallery and a testament to the timeless appeal of Constable's art. ## ## John Constable's paintings are renowned for their naturalistic depiction of the English countryside. His works, such as "The Hay Wain" and "Dedham Vale," capture the beauty and tranquillity of rural life. Constable's innovative use of colour and light and his attention to detail brought a sense of realism and immediacy to his landscapes.## ## The exhibition was met with widespread acclaim, further cementing Constable's status as a master of landscape painting. Visitors were captivated by the authenticity and emotional depth of Constable's works. The exhibition also sparked renewed interest in Constable's art, inspiring a new generation of artists and enthusiasts.## #### INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please Note. FREE SHIPPING IS UK ONLY. Softcover. Condición: Vg (bumping to corners). Color-illustrated wraps, black spine with cream lettering. 312 pp. with 250 works illustrated, nearly 100 in color. Catalogue from the exhibition of March to May 1984. Tracing the Pre-Raphaelite movement through its chronological development rather than by artist, this volume concentrates on the vital years from 1848 (when the Brotherhood was formed) to 1860, but also includes a substantial group of works from the following 20 years - a period during which the movement took new directions. The full range of Pre-Raphaelite painting is represented, from the hard-edged style of Millais's early work to the sensuousness of Rossetti's and Burne-Jones's painting in the 1870s. Altogether 250 works from collections all over the world are illustrated and discussed by scholars such as Mary Bennett, Judith Bronkhurst, John Christian, Alastair Grieve, Benedict Read and Malcolm Warner. In his introduction, Sir Alan Bowness surveys the development of Pre-Raphaelitism and examines to what extent it was ever a shared style. The chronological arrangement of the book is designed to focus on the same question and to suggest the numerous cross-currents of the movement.

Lower corner has shallow 2" crease. "[One critic] wrote that estimates of [Bacon] were sharply conflicting and that he was regarded either as the most important painter Britain has produced for some generations or as a flashy sensationalist, exploiting an obscenely horrific iconography and indulging in wild extravagances of style. Eight years have passed since these words were written: today, although his reputation has vastly increased, there is still no sign of the emergence of an accepted estimate of his stature. Perhaps the present exhibition - an assembly of almost half of what survives of his mature production - will bring about some consensus of informed opinion - but I should not be surprised if it served only to intensify the division and to deepen critical confusiion." - John Rothenstein in his introduction.

Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. Blake, William Ilustrador. 1st Edition. This softback Exhibition Catalogue was published in 1947 for a Blake Exhibition organised by The British Council and shown in Paris, Antwerp and Zurich. It covers some eighty-four of Blake's works, with black and white photographs for a small number of them. The condition of the book looks to be in 'Fine' just until you notice that the lower half inch of the cover and some of the pages suffered minor water damage. I have adjusted the condition and price accordingly. The numbered pages count excludes the illustrations of Blake's works. As with all our sales of books within the UK, we only ever charge a flat standard delivery cost of £3.35.
