Not only is it an eye-opening and humorous account of the angling exploits of one of England's best known anglers, but also an in depth look at one of the worlds best known carp lakes - Lake Cassien. Steve Briggs' love affair with this great lake spans almost a quarter of a century, so who better than he to divulge the mysteries and secrets that this historic lake holds? But this book is not just about Cassien, it is a virtual travel guide to some of the world's best known carp lakes, and Steve's successes and failures whilst fishing them. From the wild, untapped wildernesses of Lake Raduta, Rainbow Lake and the South African lakes, to the pressured intensity of the Colne Valley, this is the tale of someone who not only loves carp fishing, but also loves going carp fishing - a winning combination." Chapters include:- Cassien - the early years: A new dawn; The return - May 1987; The secret beach; Dinner with Roger and Kerry; Something a little different; New Challenges: Lake Raduta; An African adventure; Snagmere - Africa revisited; The World Carp Cup - Fishabil 2000; The Colne Valley: Harefield; Summerleaze - the forgotten lake; The linear; Warty's downfall; Cluster's last stand; Cassien - summer days: Back to basics; July 2003 - back for more!; 2004 - the changes begin; Tips, tackle and tactics; Carping in a cooler climate: Heading south for the winter; Rainbow Lake; 2006 - A vintage winter at Cassien; The triple crown; Until the next time. "For those of you who have read Harry's illuminating and forthright articles over the years, you will not be disappointed with this wonderful book. As well as charting a fishing career that began in 1952, Harry also waxes lyrically, probingly and caustically on the rise of the carp angler over that time, and the good and bad that he feels has come from that. It's not all carp, though - far from it - and Harry takes us back to the glory days of rivers like the Avon, the Stour and the Sussex Ouse in his pursuit of specimen barbel, chub and roach. He also just happened to hold the Ardingly pike record when that reservoir opened its gates to pike anglers in the mid-eighties - but that didn't end well, as you'll read. But carp angling is Harry's first love, and he's very good at it! So much so that he can only allude to his recent, remarkable captures over the past decade from a very secret and strictly non-publicity water. That said, he has caught enough wonderful carp to grace the pages twice over, and throughout the book relates the thrills and heartaches that their pursuit can bring." A very good and wide-ranging book that is by no means all carp fishing making it a good read for both carp angler and all-rounder alike. Highly recommended. PREVIOUS PRICE £30.00.

"He is just as much at home trying to outwit an Avon barbel, or large river pike, as he is in search of the carp of a lifetime, and he's pretty successful at all of those. .He is probably best known for his 'Ashmead Diaries' series in Carpworld, but this is far from just an extension of that. With his extensive work as a marine biologist, and his subsequent position as senior conservation manager with the National Trust, he has a wealth of stories to tell, and his love of flyfishing and old cane rods means that it's not just carp that sink his float, there are roach, perch, barbel, tench, salmon, trout; the list is endless. Colour photographs and the odd b/w photograph throughout, folded watercolour sketch map of Wraysbury laid in. Fine new copy. The first edition of The Wraysbury Chronicles, published in 2011, very quickly sold out and has since become quite sought-after and hard to find. By popular demand the book has been reissued in a just slightly smaller-format paperback edition. Only 750 copies have been printed. "Following .the popularity of the Horton Chronicles, it was an obvious progression to go down Welley Road to the legendary Wraysbury One. As much a part of angling history as any other lake you could mention, this huge lake has tested the resilience and skills of many of England's best known anglers, but has also held jewels that any angler would crave. Fishing on Wraysbury has always been a test of endurance, and in this book you'll find evidence of those that have passed the test, and also those that have failed." Fine new copy in dust-wrapper. Steve Briggs is, quite rightly, one of the most respected anglers not only in England but worldwide. This respect has been hard earned but when you read this book you will see how well deserved it is. The book details Steve's angling from 2005 to 2012, both home and abroad, and shows what a fine angler he is. Like most people who are very good at something, Steve makes it all sound so simple - no fancy rigs, no complex bait recipes, just things he is confident in and knows will not let him down. It's then just a matter of finding the fish, but what fish! Steve is only the third person to catch 100 carp in excess of 50lb, not only that but he is the only angler in the world to have caught them from seven different countries. In these pages there are an astonishing 58 photos of carp over 50lb, and Steve is pictured with most of them! Obviously, a lot of these have come from abroad but Steve's most treasured capture is that of The Black Mirror from the Mere, which was voted Carp Capture of the Year by Carp Talk readers in 2010, and that chapter alone highlights what makes Steve the angler he is - we could quite easily have called the book 'Blood, Sweat and Tears' based just on that chapter! This is not a technical book, but just by reading it the reader will learn so much about what it takes to be a constantly successful angler, not only on some of the most difficult lakes in the world, but also when targeting large carp from small, local lakes - oh, and don't forget the winning of a second World Carp Cup in America. With the addition of the absolutely wonderful photography, this book is a delight and cannot fail to appeal to any carp angler, home or abroad. The foreword is by Simon Crow. Only 1500 copies of this first edition have been printed. .

(Hardcover, 2013). 2013 1st edition. 4to (203 x 268mm). Pp413. Colour photographs throughout. Diary extract end-papers. Black boards, spine titled in silver gilt. Near fine in dust-wrapper. Signed by the author. Only 1500 copies of this first edition have been printed. .

(Hardcover, 2012). 2012 1st edition. 4to (200 x 267mm). Pp415. Colour paintings and illustrations, colour and b/w photographs throughout, photograph end-papers. Green boards, spine titled in silver-gilt. Near fine in dust-wrapper. Signed by the author. Mark Walsingham is a dedicated fisherman and long-time angling companion of Chris Yates, who has contributed the foreword to this book. From wild carp in secluded southern pools, to wild trout in remote Scottish lochs. From cold, lonely nights spent flyfishing for elusive sea-trout, to balmy summer days trying to entice mysterious monstrous carp into taking a carefully placed floater." Chapters include: The source; Pitt Pond; Meanders [Somerset, Australia and elsewhere]; The Golden Scale Club; The Avon barbel; Along the Ashmead Drove; Footloose with a flyrod; Silver ghosts; The Severn Oaks Syndicate; A fool and his eel; Crumbleholmes demise; The Grizzled-Wing Adams; Restoration [of Ashmead]; Encounters with pike; Salmo salar; The art of stalking carp; The Leney legacy; The disposable Avocet; Redmire; The quest for Fugglestone Red; Pitt Pond epitaph; Ashmead dreams; Ebb tide. A super book. .

"A limited edition book." "It's been almost a decade now since the release of my first book the 'Myth' and I'm being told that it's still regarded as a highly original piece of angling fiction. Now, along comes not a sequel but a natural progression. The Keeper is not just another tale of friends chasing huge fish, but a story of new relationships, different challenges and changing priorities - the stuff that life regularly throws at us. It takes us further along the road that the 'Myth' originally took us, and there are still many forks in the road, but the journey will sometimes amuse you, sometimes bemuse you. Hopefully, the end result will simply entertain you, and possibly, just possibly, answer some nagging unanswered questions. It's me, what more would you expect!" .

(Hardcover, 2011). 2011 1st edition. 4to (185 x 257mm). Ppxviii,379. Colour photographs throughout, end-paper map. Laminated boards simulating a battered old leather binding. Slight use but a very good copy of the first edition. "In carp fishing terms, the history of Horton Church Lake is relatively short, a mere two decades which, when compared to the likes of Redmire, Wraysbury, Darenth and Yateley makes it barely a teenager. But in that time, its place in the pages of English Carp fishing has been written many times. The Horton Chronicles has been written by a few of its anglers glad to tell their stories of the good times, and bad times too. You will laugh, maybe cry but most of all you'll want to read the stories from start to finish." Contributors include; Johnny Moult, Stuart Rothwell, Martin Gardener, Darren Ward, Chris Pearson, Alan South, Robbie Stoddard, Steve Mogford, Tony Badham, Peter Bond, Simon Lavin, Garry Bond, Del Smith, Garth Ecclestone, Ben Musselwhite, Matt Eaton, Martin Pick, Dennis de Wilde, Barry Meeuwissen, Kevin Winter, John Beacher, Dave Slowen. The cover (matt laminated boards) represents a facsimile of an old leather-bound journal, complete with disintegrating spine. The publishers stated that this edition was limited to only 1000 copies. These sold out very quickly on publication. A second, revised, edition, titled The Horton Chronicles - The Banned Edition was published later in 2011. This, too, was limited to 1000 copies. .

Slight wear to top of spine but a very good copy. This "Banned Edition", consists of xx + 459 pages, as against xviii + 379 of the first edition. "So, 'why is it called 'The Banned Edition'?', I hear you ask. Well, Chilly, Reg and I moved onto Wraysbury in 1997 and one weekend we arranged to meet Dave there, for Reg's birthday I seem to recall. Anyway, boats were not allowed at the time, but that rule seemed to have passed us by. The short story is, we got caught and got banned. There's even a swim named after us, where the 'captures' took place - The Banned." (Keith Jenkins - publisher and editor). Keith, Chilly, Reg and Daves' stories can be found in the new, extra 80 pages. A "brief history of the first two decades of Horton Church Lake." Contributors include; Johnny Moult, Stuart Rothwell, Martin Gardener, Darren Ward, Chris Pearson, Alan South, Robbie Stoddard, Steve Mogford, Tony Badham, Peter Bond, Simon Lavin, Garry Bond, Del Smith, Garth Ecclestone, Ben Musselwhite, Matt Eaton, Martin Pick, Dennis de Wilde, Barry Meeuwissen, Kevin Winter, John Beacher, Dave Slowen. Hundreds of pictures. The cover (matt laminated boards) represents a facsimile of an old leather-bound journal, complete with disintegrating spine. Only 1,000 copies of this edition were printed. .

(Hardcover, 2013). 2013 1st edition. 4to (185 x 255mm). Pp464. Colour and b/w photographs throughout. Matt laminated boards simulating an old binding. Near fine second-hand copy with map enclosed inside front cover. "For many carp anglers, Savay Lake is as mystical a place as Redmire Pool; a lake that few have fished but where many would dearly love to. For five decades this seventy acre lake has been producing fish that would make the carp world sit up and gasp, but it wasn't until the early eighties that the real stories of multiple catches of twenties and thirties started to filter out through the angling press. Mike Wilson's iconic pose on the front of the first Carp Society magazine caught everybody's attention, and then the 'bible' that is 'The Carp Strikes Back', by Rod Hutchinson, focussed that attention and moved Savay Lake towards it's now mythical status. Further excellent books, in the shape of Rob Maylin's 'Tiger Bay' and John Harry's 'Savay', confirmed that status, and the fact that only a very few anglers were ever invited to join the elite syndicate just added to the Savay mystique. Many great anglers have trod Savay's 'black mud', but one man can rightly be known as 'Mr Savay', and that is the late Pete Broxup. His diligence, foresight and downright hard work has no doubt made the lake what it is today, and what it has always been under his leadership - a magical place where monsters abide. This book is, rightly, dedicated to Pete, but there are many more who deserve mention, and within these pages you'll read many of their stories. Over 30 anglers have contributed to this tribute of a lake and a man who helped mould it. Amongst them are Mike Wilson, Rod Hutchinson, Albert Romp, Brian Hankins, Bruce Ashby, Frank Ward, Andy Little, John Harry, Clive Williams, Richard Grundy, Jordan Wesley and many more. This may not be the definitive history of Savay Lake, but it's pretty damn close and with over 600 photos stretching back to the very first carp stockings in the early fifties, this is a must for carp anglers young and old." The third title in Freebird's ever popular 'Chronicles' series. .
