In this issue, William J. Petersen describes Christmas as celebrated in Iowa during the previous century. The cover illustration was reprinted from an old Harper's, but as a fifth-generation Iowan who has played the roles of all but four of the people in the picture, I can attest that it looks a lot like an Iowan Christmas in recent decades, too.
