SIGNED hardcover first edition - First edition. A book written by Ethel M. Briggs, Northwest Branch Librarian at the Reading (Pa.) Public Library Hardback, which - in addition to telling a cute story about a boy named Tommy and his black Scotch terrier, named Arsenic (because he is 'poison' to so many things) -also explains much about how a public library works - beginning with it is "free for everyone to use." Illustrated with simple line drawings by the author. INSCRIBED by the author on the half title page and dated in 1944. 84 pp plus 1 pp Dewey classification chart. Very good overall in blue cloth with a small pasted on color illustration of a library on the front cover and black lettering on the spine (name on first page, some bumping to the corners and wear to the edges of the board, usual toning to pages) Uncommon signed.
