"Pera Museum in collaboration with the Amsterdam Museum is organizing an exhibition exploring the commencement of four hundred years of fruitful cooperation between Turkey and the Netherlands. It was on 14 March 1612 during the ruling of the Ottoman Empire that the first Ambassador of Dutch Republic, Cornelis Haga, arrived in Constantinople. The year 2012 marks the four hundredth year of this diplomatic relations. In collaboration with several other leading partners, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Nationaal Archief in The Hague and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the exhibition aims to spread knowledge about historical and contemporary links between Amsterdam and Istanbul. The exhibition explores the historical and contemporary relations between two world cities and through these cities, implicitly also the two countries. 'Pioneers' and 'image (-forming)' are among the prominent themes. The exhibition is not intended as a complete survey of four centuries of diplomatic ties, but rather provides an attractive insight into the historical ties between Amsterdam and Istanbul, from 1612 to the present day. The exhibition is historical and social in approach, yet it also features important art works as well. A key section of the exhibition is a reconstruction of the Levantse Handel (Levant Trade) chamber that was based in the Town Hall (Palace on Dam Square) from the early 17th to early 19th century. A detailed inventory exists of the paintings and charts that were displayed on the walls of this powerful commercial office in Amsterdam. Many of these items, including an extensive series of portraits by Vanmour, from the collection of Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum will also be exhibited".

Curated by Aida Abadzic Hodzic. The exhibition centres on the art of Mersad Berber, who is one of the greatest and most significant representatives of Bosnian?Herzegovinian art from the second half of the 20th century. Inspired by the great European masters, from Renaissance to Art Nouveau, Berber?s works exemplify the deep, opaque whites of his journeys through the fairy tale landscapes of Bosnia to the dark, macabre burrows of Srebrenica. The exhibition catalogue includes essays by Aida Abadzic Hodzic, the curator of the show and a well-known art historian, teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, and by Edward Lucie-Smith, the art critic and the honorary consultant of the project. While Abadzic Hodzic concentrates on how the art of Berber reflects all the multi-layered cultural history of his country; Lucie-Smith, who had worked with the artist in several exhibitions, focuses on his art within the European art history scene.

Soft cover. Condición: New. Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (28 x 24 cm). Bilingual in Turkish and English. 103 p., color ills. The Time Needs Changing exhibition questions our geo-politically controlled notions of time. The three artists in this show give alternatives to linear time, which is currently strictly enforced by the power structures under which we live. The works of Cao Fei, Nilbar Güres and the Raqs Media Collective release the shackles of time, and suggest alternative and parallel paths. The exhibition presents a thought-scape that draws from three different parts of the world; China, Turkey and India. The artists explore time through drawing, video, photography, installation and new media. Time is one of the many subjects addressed by the participants of the exhibition. Their works help us better understand our relations with ourselves, as well as those with the world around us. Nilbar Güres questions masculine linear time; Cao Fei offers us greater control in a world where real and virtual intersect; and the Raqs Media Collective liberates time itself in its works that associate memory with different experiences.

The Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Sarajevo was founded in 1972 as the first Academy of Fine Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina and became one of the forerunners in Bosnian contemporary art. An openness for diverse artistic poetics, a departure from strict academism, flexibility of curricula in interaction with the wider social community, synergy between traditional design knowledge and skills and new media challenges have all led the numerous graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo to become recognised artists, designers and professors throughout the world. The exhibition catalogue presents an essay by curator Aida Abadzic Hodzic discussing the contemporary interpretations of Bosnian young artists and works in various media created by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as graduates of the six faculties of the academy, including painting, sculpture, art education, printmaking, graphic and product design. The works survey contemporary art in Bosnia Herzegovina and offers comments and reflections by its young artists on the history, and social, political, economic and cultural issues of the country. Condición: New. Where does the French artistic scene stand in regard to the last fifteen years? What are its eminent character traits? What are its dominant trends? Did any notable change come about to transform its physiognomy? These are so many questions brought into play by this idea of sketching a "profile" and not a "panorama" of its present status. The semantic differentiation between these two words is quite imposing here. If the notion of panorama supposes a scope and an extent which imply a broadenedvision of the situation, that of profile does not make out the same meaning and sooner accentuates the idea of an overview, a digest, following the example of an artist who endeavours to give a thumbnail sketch of his model in an attempt to express its essential traits. Thefamous art critic Philippe Piguet put it, this exposition "which intended to highlight a present state of art production as it developed in France more or less in the last fifteen years and what is more insomuch as it is sifted though sieves of public collections" blew like a spring breeze wafting a gentle air from France into the halls of Pera Museum, and gave the contemporary artistic panorama of a country that has always been amongst the vanguards of European Art. Condición: New. This exhibition is centered on the art of Mario Prassinos, who was born in Istanbul into a Greek-Ottoman family and began his artistic career in Paris, among the 20th century avant-gardes. Bringing together a large selection of his works ranging from paintings and book illustrations to tapestries, portraits, and engravings, the exhibition reveals the striking and unique character of Prassinos and his distinctive style shifting from Surrealism to a more realistic approach. Curated by Seza Sinanlar Uslu, the exhibition welcomes back this original 20th-century artist to his birthplace to Pera, Istanbul, on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Mario Prassinos was born in Istanbul in 1916 to a Greek-Italian family that settled in Turkey many years before. In 1922, his family moved to France. He studied at the School of Oriental Languages and the Sorbonne. His first solo exhibition was held in 1938 at the Billiet-Vorms Gallery. Upon his return from the war in which he had fought as a volunteer, he broke away from surrealism and started a figurative period. Editors: Translator: 112 pages.

He was also a passionate, foresighted collector who, apart from his position as a clergyman, was enthusiastic about all domains of contemporary art and regardless of their beliefs or origins, approached all "avant-garde" artists with the same openness. As one of the most outstanding collections of Modern Austrian art, the names of the artists represented within the collection is almost a "who is who" of post-1945 Austrian art. By encompassing a wide spectrum from "classical" modern to postmodern, Mauer tried to create a "reference collection," analogous to an atlas of art history. By World War II, he had already begun collecting with great resolution, the lithographs of the leading representatives of Parisian modern art, as well as the original works of German and Austrian artists. Gallery St Stephan, which he founded in 1954, evolved into the leading avant-garde gallery of Vienna under his management in the 1950s and 60s; it also acquired a considerable and well-deserved fame on the international art scene. Otto Mauer's relationship with art was always defined by his personal and amicable connections with the artists. His collection, which he was able to expand uninterruptedly until 1973, by purchases and artists' gifts, must be perceived not only as an indication of his progressive interest in art, but also as a very subjective interpretation of modern Austrian painting. Condición: New. Considered as one of the most brilliant graphic designers of the 20th century, Ivan Chermayeff has created a number of truly memorable designs with his partner Tom Geismar. Through his unique and exceptional work on the emblem, logo and corporate identity designs of Koç Holding and various other Koç companies, he has made it possible for the names of these institutions, and by extension Turkey, to be acknowledged by the world of design. Since its founding in 1957, Chermayeff & Geismar has pioneered a transformation in the practice of graphic design. Located in New York but working for clients in many countries, especially Turkey, they have pursued a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach across a broad range of projects and disciplines, from the development of scores of famous trademarks to the design of notable museum exhibitions, from hundreds of imaginative posters for cultural events to largescale artworks for distinguished architectural projects. Throughout all these tasks, Chermayeff & Geismar's work has remained consistent, not in style, but in its approach to design. Accepting the Modernist ideal that design is a problem-solving discipline, they have sought to humanize that ideal through humor, artistic invention and an entrepreneurial spirit. Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University's Department of Photography, founded on July 13th, 1978 as the Institute of Photography, under the auspices of Istanbul Fine Arts Academy, Department of Decorative Arts, celebrated its 30th anniversary, in 2008 at the Pera Museum. The exhibition comprised a selection of photographs by 67 graduates. The Institute of Photography epitomized the institutionalization of photography education in Turkey. Photography clubs had been established prior to the inauguration of the Institute and classes were offered in a number of other institutions; however, the implementation of a four-year undergraduate education in photography was only realized in 1978. In the thirty-year-long period, the Department of Photography had over three hundred graduates. While this exhibition, as one of the reunion events of the Department's 30th anniversary celebrations, commemorates the establishment of the institution as well as its alumni, it also shares with viewers the works of its graduates, who have been working professionally for many years in the field of photography.
