Domesticated in a future era, it turns out to be not quite so tame as people thought. With an extraordinary creature that endears itself to us in the first chapters, Heinlein shows once again his skill at describing the indescribable. Book.

Mass Market Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Some minor creasing to the spine from being read and some very minor creasing to tip of top right hand corner of cover, otherwise a nice, clean copy. From Forluin, green, half-fabled land of beauty and peace, had journeyed Estarinel, grave and strong in his thoughtfulness. From the terrible Empire of Gorethria, hated and feared among all the victim peoples of the planet, rode Ashurek, once High Commander of the Armies, scourge of the subject races. And the third was known only as Medrian. Coldly wrapped in her cloak of mystery, her eyes deep-shadowed with suffering long-endured, she spoke nothing as to her reasons. Theirs was the Quest. Together they were to seek out and slay the great Serpent that had come down from the far frozen limits of their world to lay waste and utterly destroy. Book.

Half-Greek, half-German, Indian-born, Italian stepfathered Swiss-dwelling and Irish-wifed; Stavros de Battista was fated to be an interpreter. Which was why, on the occasion of the 57th Conference of the World League of Parliaments in the Europa Hotel, Bangkok, he was drinking and thinking of fellow interpreter Christine and a spot of Addis Ababa - named after their first spasm of passion at the 1986 Plenary of the Pan-African Convention on Population Control. Which was why he picked up the wrong pass and briefcase in the multi-lingual confusion at the accreditation desk. Which was why life began to spiral down into a bizarre sequence of massage parlour mishaps, mistaken identities and murderous encounters. Book.

Mass Market Paperback. Condición: Near Fine. Cover: Mick Van Houten Ilustrador. First British Paperback. Unread copy - as new. Set in the same brilliantly imagined post-apocalyptic world as Will baker's outstanding first novel of tomorrow, Shadow Hunter, Stat Beast is a totally compelling epic of intrigue, conflict and passion in a violent, complex future that is recognizably rooted in our own unstable times. After wars and ecological catastrophes have devastated whole regions of the Earth, most men and women have retreated into high-tech hive-cities. In the dangerous Wasteland outside, a strange new hybrid version of humanity, the Pobla, has established itself precariously, avoiding as far as possible contact with conventional homo sapiens civilization. With good reason: in the past, regular mankind has displayed distinctly genocidal impulses towards the Pobla. But now the Pobla are, bizarrely, flocking in droves to death-camps on the frontiers of ordinary humanity's domain. Why this should be so is just the first of the fascinating and explosive mysteries in this enthralling novel of a time only a few generations from now. Book.

Dj has some minor shelfwear and a couple of very short tears to top of rear cover and some mild rubbing; now protected inside a cover. Chung Kuo. For three thousand years, as the Great Wheel turned and a dozen mighty dynasties rose and fell, this was the name the Han - the Chinese - gave their land: Chung Kuo, the "Middle Kingdom". Now, at the turn of the twenty-second century, it has come to mean much more. For more than a hundred years, the Empire of the Han has encompassed all of the world, the earth's bloated population of 36 billion contained in its vast, hive-like cities. War, famine and political instability are things of the past. The Council of Seven - Han lords, each more powerful than the greatest of the ancient Emperors - rule Chung Kuo with an absolute authority, their boast that they have ended Change and stopped the Great Wheel turning. Yet at the moment of its supreme strength and confidence, Chung Kuo is suddenly vulnerable. A new generation of powerful young merchants begin to challenge the authority of the Seven, demanding Change. But Change means war and a return to the savageries of the past. The Middle Kingdom is the first volume in an epic future history, breathtaking in its scope. Criss-crossed by human patterns of love and betrayal, heroism and treachery, intrigue and excitement, it is one of the most outstanding achievements of recent times. Book.

On 9 April 1963, USS Thresher, the United States navy's newest, fastest, deepest-diving submarine lay at berth in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, New hampshire. After a nine-month overhaul, Thresher was to be put through her paces for the next forty-eight hours. She was due to be back at her berth on 11 April with most of the thousand items on her Sea Trial Agenda ticked off as satisfactory or requiring nominal attention. So eferone hoped. At nine o'clock the following day the tests were in full swing. At 0913 Thresher slipped past the test depth towards terrible danger. At 0917 the pressure hull gave way in the region of the engine room. Instantly a 1500 ton torrent of sea water poured into the crippled sub, annihilating everything in its path. This caused an immediate rise in atmospheric pressure and the resultant implosion was equal to a ton of dynamite. As Thresher plummeted to the sea bed she exploded and debris scattered over at least 140,000 square yards. John Bentley records the life span of Thresher from her original design to the final disintegration, a commissioned life of only 625 days. He describes the unusual speed (a mere twenty-eight months) at which she was constructed, and her importance as the forerunner of a new line of deadly nuclear attack submarines, staggering in their complexity - the "killer subs". Size: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". Book.
