VG. hardcovers. sadly there is marked divit and a scratch to the front cover, and some secondary marks. nothing internally - which is in Fine condition. no inscriptions or marginalia. delightful clean copy internally. signed by the author to title page without a dedication. from the personal collection of a dealer/collector. large book which will be boxed for best arrival condition. price reflects the damage to the front cover. do ask for a scan if concerned - it is not too unsightly! nThis collection is our third collaboration with the remarkable Joseph Mills. An artist of unique vision and exceptional skill, Mills is influenced in particular by the Dada and Surrealist movements, and by his personal experience of psychosis. He describes his earliest artistic accomplishment as simply surviving through creativity. Starting out as a photographer, a snow-induced confinement indoors kicked off a second creative practice: collage. Now, 35 years later, these two ostensibly different bodies of work continue along simultaneously parallel and overlapping paths. Our first monograph, Inner City, features Mills's street photography while the second, The Loves of the Poets, is devoted to collage. In this gorgeous new book we present silk-screened images, a medium relatively new to Mills but one he deploys with his own inimitable genius. Anarch is fascinating, beautiful and truly unique. Joseph Mills has lived and worked in Washington, DC for many years. His work has been widely exhibited and can be found in numerous private and museum collections.\n\nHardcover, 11 x 14, 32 pages, 27 four-color plates.

Hardcover. Condición: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Edition of 500 hand-numbered copies, signed in black ink on the title page by Salinger. Hardcover. Fine gray cloth-covered boards with title stamped in white and gray on cover and spine, and with a tipped-in four-color plate on the back cover; no dust jacket as issued. Photographs by Adrienne Salinger. Unpaginated (56 pp.), with 48 four-color plates finely printed on heavy matte art paper. 13-5/16 x 11-5/16 inches. New in publisher's shrink-wrap (slit open for signature). Time races as we grow older. The slippery memories of our past -- through which we define ourselves -- quickly recede and morph. The fact of "middle age" is that the hard-won identity that youth can't fathom, brings with it the gravity of physicality. The largest group of middle-aged people in the world live in the United States. They're older as you read this. Older still. This is a group of people who are at the height of their cultural power. No longer concerned with figuring out who they want to "be," they are by no means infirm. And yet when they look in the mirror, they can't recognize themselves. In a culture that worships youth and infantilizes old age, middle age is often invisible. The faces of these middle-aged men photographed by Adrienne Salinger suggest and reveal the choices they've made throughout their lives, experiences beyond their control, and the fragility of time. The particularity of these portraits allow a scrutiny that simply does not occur in "real" life. Because of the uniformity of her approach, Salinger's pictures also have a power beyond the simple document. They tell the truth the way a novelist tells the truth -- that is, completely, and not at all. Signed by Author.

Hardcover. Condición: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Black matte paper-covered boards with tipped-in four-color plate and title stamped in gray on cover, with green cloth-covered spine; no dust jacket as issued. Photographs, text and editing by Eduardo del Valle and Mirta Gómez. Additional photographs and text by Tony Mendoza and Abelardo Morell. Additional text by Guillermo Cabrera Infante. Includes an illustrated overview of JGS activities in the arts. Unpaginated (96 pp.), with 69 four-color plates and 5 black-and-white plates plus numerous additional color illustrations. 12 x 9-1/2 inches. New in publisher's shrink-wrap. From Nazraeli Press: "For this fourth volume in the Witness series, Eduardo del Valle and Mirta Gómez present photographs taken in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico where for over twenty years they have focused on the metamorphosis of the vernacular domestic architecture of the region. The husband and wife team's selection for this volume is comprised of 'Sections of Time,' a voluminous on-going project where the same dwellings are photographed from the same spot over a number of years, bearing witness to how the structures are affected by seasonal changes and the passage of time. The fascination that del Valle and Gomez have with these houses has come to epitomize their own transformation as first generation immigrants - and like the houses they photograph, they, too, have had to adapt, change and evolve in order to survive. Witness Number 4 closes with a presentation of work by two other Cuban-American photographers who, like del Valle and Gomez, witnessed the start of the Cuban revolution in the late 1950s and who also emigrated to the United States in the early '60s: Tony Mendoza and Abelardo Morell.".

From Nazraeli Press: "Joseph Mills is the subject and guest-editor of Witness Number 5, the successful artist-edited series published by JGS, Inc and distributed by Nazraeli Press. For his contribution to the Witness series -- in which one artist is selected for each volume to present their own work as well as work by other artists -- Mills presents his vintage street photographs, culminating in a special selection of his famed 'Inner City' work with an accompanying essay by Paul Roth. Witness Number 5 closes with a presentation of work Mary Del Popolo ('Self') and Norman Carr ('Schizopolis'). Designed from cover to cover by Joseph Mills, and featuring full-bleeds and an extended gatefold, this is a jaw-dropping volume that has to be seen to be believed.".

Black matte paper-covered boards with tipped-in black-and-white plate and title stamped in gray on cover, with rust cloth-covered spine; no dust jacket as issued. Photographs by Lee Friedlander. Afterword by Maria Friedlander. Includes a list of plates and an illustrated overview of JGS activities in the arts. Unpaginated (96 pp.), with 157 duotone plates and additional illustrations. 12 x 9-1/2 inches. New in publisher's shrink-wrap. From Nazraeli Press: "Witness Number 6 provides a portrait -- in 157 photographs by Lee Friedlander, and accompanying essay by Maria Friedlander -- of the sculptor Raoul Hague. The Friedlanders knew Hague for over two and a half decades, and their deep fondness for, and mutual trust with, the Armenian-born sculptor comes through in every image and word of this gorgeous addition to JGS's Witness series." From the text by Maria Friedlander: "Lee and I have shared a number of unconventionally interesting friends during our five decades together, people who show us an unusual way of living a life. I would put Raoul Hague on that list, maybe at the top. Beginning in the mid 1960s and continuing for more than 25 years, Lee and I and our children visited him at the Woodstock, New York, cabin where he lived and worked. To enter Hague's cabin was entering his universe. It was not simply a dwelling and a studio but a carefully organized way of life, a reflection of an esthetic ideal. All he did, whether work or pleasure, was driven by this ideal, which he created for himself and carried out without compromise. Hague was the quintessential storybook artist.".

Hardbound. First. Light blue paper boards w/ tipped-on color photographs, [4], xiii, 70pp, 47 color plates. From the publisher--The publication of "Paul Outerbridge: New Color Photographs from Mexico and California, 1948-1955" marks the discovery of a previously unknown and unpublished body of work by one of America's earliest masters of color photography.Shooting in bold, luminous Kodachrome, his photographs explore the quirkiness of 1950s leisure culture and examine the blending of two interwoven societies at a distinctive time in history. From governors to gauchos, and from stevedores to bathing beauties, Outerbridge captured the humanity, and occasionally the absurdity, of people as they gathered at weddings, pool parties, and picture spots. VG, edges show light wear, small marks on front cover.

Hardcover. oversized, silken cream cloth boards w/ mounted bw illustration. approx 52 unpaginated pgs w/ color & bw plates. Born in Munich in 1896, Josef Breitenbach began taking photographs while working in the family wine merchant business. Proving less than successful at the latter, he opened his first photographic studio in 1932. Munich at that time was a stronghold of libertarians and bons vivants, and Breitenbach's clients included actors, cabaret stars, writers and political figures. It was a short-lived venture; when Hitler became Chancellor in 1933, the photographer escaped to Paris, where he stayed for the next six years. There, Breitenbach's close friendship with Max Ernst, and his experimentation with printing techniques and color manipulation, brought him into contact with the thriving Surrealist movement, although he never became a member of that group. His work was included in a number of exhibitions, alongside that of Man Ray, Brassai and Cartier-Bresson. After the outbreak of war, and a period of internment, he fled to New York and established himself as a teacher and commercial photographer. However, his early work remained unseen until its surprise discovery, after his death, in 1984. Published in association with The Josef Breitenbach Trust, Manifesto is an important addition to the literature available on this extraordinary artist.--Amazon. The 77th publication in the Nazraeli Press One Picture Book series. From the publisher: "Having difficulty identifying a particular species of bird through her spotting scope, Carol E. Richards took a photograph through the lens to assist with her research. The resulting picture turned out to be far more than a tool for verification. It had a mood and visual content the artist was drawn to, and led to the creation of a series of beautiful, dream-like vignettes. 'Unlike some photographs of wildlife that are clear and provide answers,' says Richards, 'these soft visuals raise questions. It was a surprising discovery; as I spied on these birds, I could see their charm and individuality. Who knew?'" Signed by Author.

As opposed to High Fashion Crime Scenes, which focused on the victim and was based entirely in reality, the Juliette series is a fantasy, and flips the model's role to one in a position of power.I approached Juliette Lewis with the idea and she became my muse for the series. I wrote scripts for each shot and she acted out the scenes. Each shot in essence is a film still. The only film still. The series was shot in Los Angeles in 2004." Signed by Author.

It was money well spent. Usborne had great fun interacting with people on the street and the fox, temporarily at least, was given a new lease of life. Follow this Fantastic Mr Fox, a delightful addition to our One Picture Book series, as he visits a grocery store, joins the queue at an ATM and -- of course! -- drops in at a good old British pub. Paper-covered boards, no dust jacket as issued. Photographs by Elaine Ling. 16 pp., with 6 four-color and 7 duotone plates. 7-1/2 x 5-3/4 inches. New. The 94th publication in the Nazraeli Press One Picture Book series. From the publisher: "Elaine Ling was an exuberant adventurer, traveler, and photographer who felt most at home backpacking her view camera across the great deserts of the world and sleeping under the stars. Born in Hong Kong, she grew up in Canada and studied the piano, the cello and medicine. She received her medical degree from the University of Toronto, and practiced family medicine among various First Nations peoples in Canada's North and Pacific Northwest as well as on the other side of the world, in Abu Dhabi and Nepal. Sadly, Elaine Ling passed away in August of this year after a long illness. One of her last projects was working on Habitación Cubana, her contribution to our One Picture Book series. This vibrant and colorful book comprises seven pairs of photographs made in Cuba on two separate trips: the first in 2002, and the second in 2015. In each of the pairs, Ling presents a chosen subject in black and white, and again thirteen years later in color. The double layers of time and color create diptychs that can be contemplated endlessly, always with new discoveries to be made. The last pair of images in the book substitutes a signed, original color print in lieu of the reproduction. Elaine Ling's photographs have been widely exhibited and published, and are included in the permanent collections of museums around the world, including those of he Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, France; Musée de la Photographie, Charleroi, Belgium; Fotografie Forum International, Frankfurt, Germany; Museet for Fotokunst, Odense, Denmark; Centro Portugues de Fotografia, Porto, Portugal; Scavi Scaligeri International Centre of Photography, Verona, Italy; Fototeca de Cuba, Havana; Lishui Museum of Photography; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; and the Brooklyn Museum, New York." The 96th publication in the Nazraeli Press One Picture Book series. From the publisher: "'When I arrived in Hollywood in 1971, I was smitten by the sunshine and the art deco cityscape. Prominent on her streets were the lavish movie palaces, first appearing in the 1920s, that were emblematic of the immense popularity of the movies and the importance of the movie industry to the economy of Southern California. The architects of the early movie theaters believed that the movie-going experience began on the sidewalk in front of the building where the movies were viewed. The box offices were the tiny stand-alone structure where tickets were sold. The elaborate little buildings, occupied by one or two ticket sellers, provided a preview to the opulent decoration of the interior, and reflected its style. I referred to these as 'bijou', the French word that translates as 'jewel.' â " Ave Pildas. Hardcover. Condición: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Limited edition of 500 hand-numbered copies, with an original Type-C print on Fujicolor Crystal Archive paper tipped in the final page (image size: 6 x 4 inches), signed on verso in black ink by Corey Arnold and Chris Arnold. Hardcover. Paper-covered boards, no dust jacket as issued. Photographs by Chris Arnold. Curated by Corey Arnold. 16 pp., with 14 four-color plates. 7-1/2 x 5-3/4 inches. New. The 69th publication in the Nazraeli Press One Picture Book series. From the publisher: "Corey Arnold's first monograph, 'Fishwork: The Bering Sea,' was published by Nazraeli Press in 2011 to wide critical acclaim. In his contribution to our One Picture Book series, Arnold 'curates' a group of photographs his father made of him growing up; in each of the photographs, Arnold is either fishing or showing off his catch. Knowing who the subject of these photographs is, his relationship to the one who made these photographs, and how his passions for photography and fishing would later play out, make 'Fishing with My Dad' resonate on many levels." Libro Original o primera edición
Hardcover. Condición: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Hardcover; no dust jacket as issued. Photographs by Paul Outerbridge. Introduction by Graham Howe. Essay by William Ewing and Phillip Prodger. 88 pp., with 50 four-color plates. 12 x 13 inches. New. From the publisher: "The publication of Paul Outerbridge: New Color Photographs from Mexico and California, 1948-1955 marks the discovery of a previously unknown and unpublished body of work by one of America's earliest masters of color photography. Outerbridge built his extraordinary reputation by making virtuoso carbro-color prints of nudes and still lifes, mainly in the studio, during the 1930s. In the late 1940s and 1950s he took his camera to the streets, crossing the border between California and Mexico and photographing the people and places he found. In the tradition of such photographers as Edward Weston, Paul Strand, Anton Bruehl, and Henri Cartier-Bresson, all of whom made significant photographic forays into Mexico, Outerbridge ventured south in his 1949 black Cadillac, frequenting the seaport towns along the Baja peninsula. Shooting in bold, luminous Kodachrome, his photographs explore the quirkiness of 1950s leisure culture and examine the blending of two interwoven societies at a distinctive time in history. From governors to gauchos, and from stevedores to bathing beauties, Outerbridge captured the humanity, and occasionally the absurdity, of people as they gathered at weddings, pool parties, and picture spots. As brilliant and innovative today as when they were made, these images demonstrate a breathtaking mastery of the new art of color photography, and Outerbridge's characteristic style and dramatic use of color anticipated the work of photographers who strove a quarter of a century later to develop a similar, bold new color vocabulary.".
