Quarto; paperback; 112pp., with many colour illustrations. Mild wear; covers mildly scuffed. Very good to near fine. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. Exhibition catalogue. Paris in the nineteenth century and first half of the twentieth century - until the disruption of World War II - was the unrivalled centre of the Western art world. The capital's extraordinarily creative milieu is demonstrated by the number of artistic movements which emerged in and around the city: Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, the Nabi, Fauvism, Cubism, Surrealism. Enticed by the intellectual financial and sensual opportunities the city provided, French artists congregated in their capital, while artists from other countries also flocked to this artistic mecca, with many spending much of their lives there or returning repeatedly. The supportive environment and a vibrant and bohemian lifestyle appealed to many young artists, while the political and cultural climate of Europe ensured a steady influx of artists. This catalogue mirrors the prolific graphic activity of the 1890s when over half of the selected prints were produced. The balance of works in the twentieth century is more evenly divided between prints and drawings although it is worth noting that two of the drawings, Chagall's 'The lion and the rat' and Picasso's 'The pose of the model', were produced as designs for books. The book explores the themes of the historical and social development of Paris.

Quarto; paperback; 462pp., with many colour and monochrome illustrations. Minor wear; mild scuffing to covers. Near fine. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. "This book sets out to present a rounded view of the great master of the Golden Age and his seminal influence on the art of his time. It also takes a fresh look at the complex and volatile question of what to attribute to Rembrandt vis-a-vis his pupils and on what grounds, this being the pivot upon which recent interpretation and assessment of his achievement turns. The master himself is represented by paintings, drawings and etchings, many being the finest he produced. Works by the best of his many pupils have been selected to show the decisive influence which Rembrandt had on them and also, in some cases, to illustrate the path away from the master's 'dark painting' to a smoother more colourful Italianate style which many of them later took. The scholars who have contributed to this catalogue bring to the task a variety of perspectives and viewpoints, reflecting the highly didactic state of the subject." [Timothy Potts].

Quarto; gatefold paperback; 352pp., with many colour illustrations. Minor wear. Near fine. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. Exhibition catalogue. This book hopes to take up the story from the hugely successful Golden Summers exhibition, concentrating however on the five key initiators of the movement and limiting the timescale to the period 1883-1897. Tom Roberts, in company with the Paris-trained Spanish artists Ramon Casas and Laurea Barrau, his Melbourne friend Dr William Maloney and John Russell - the only Australian painter to be directly in touch with Monet and mainstream Impressionism, visited Spain in 1883. It was also the year in which Roberts worked briefly under Gerome at Julian's Academy in Paris. The exhibition and catalogue concentrates on the participants in the first camps at Box Hill, Mentone and Eaglemont and does not extend to major figures of the second phase of Australian plein-air painting including the group who worked at Charterisville in the Heidelberg/Eaglemont area.
