Profusely Illustrated Ilustrador. Reprint. A visual and literary treasury of the works of a master of the Renaissance and arguably one of the greatest artists of all time. Michelangelo is inarguably one of the world's premier artists. More people can identify his paintings, sculptures, and architecture than they can any other artist. Here, in this exquisitely illustrated single volume, are the works of his singular genius -- from his earliest sculptures, to his ever awe-inspiring paintings, to his classical architectural works. Magnificent new color and black-and-white photographs, combined with extraordinary details, allow the reader to view Michelangelo's magnificent work as never before. Sculptures, such as the much beloved Rome Pieta, are revealed with such beauty that the reader is tempted to reach out and touch the image. Michelangelo's paintings, in particular the glory of the Sistine chapel ceiling frescoes, are shown in their newly restored brilliance. Finally, the book devotes itself to the architectural accomplishments of this genius who was as comfortable with a pen in his hand as he was with a chisel. A marvelous and engaging text by William Wallace humanizes this larger-than-life artist; 267 pages; Physical desc. : 267 p. : ill. (some col. , some folded) , facsims. (some col. ) ; 37 cm. Beaux Arts reprint edition. Copyright 1998 by Hugh Lauter Levin Associates. Includes index. Subject: Michelangelo Buonarroti, 1475-1564 - Criticism and interpretation. Cappella Sistina (Vatican Palace, Vatican City) . Painting, Renaissance - Italy. Artists. MichelangeloRenaissance. Art 3 Kg.

Quarto. Each volume contains 380 pages and is profusely illustrated. One volume with 116 full color plates and 117 plates in black and white, (some folding), the other volume contains 119 full color plates and 125 in black and white (some folding. The first volume traces the important rebellion of the early impressionists who in 1874 decided to offer their work directly to the public without the staid rules of the Salon (which wanted to maintain the standards of the past). The core of these artists included Pissaro, Degas, Sisley, Cezanne, Monet, Renoir and was followed by increased abstraction of the post-impressionists including Redon, Gaugin, Matisse, Braque, Bonnard, and eventually Van Gogh. Both volumes are in fine condition bound in black paper covered boards lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, in their original color pictorial dust jackets and housed in the original slipcase which has wear to one corner. An exceptionally nice set.
