Hardcover. Original blue cloth boards with gold lettering on the spine. 8vo. 504 pages; 24.5 cm. In German in Gothic script. Reprint from the 1922 edition, "Sammlung juedisher Geschichten in der Schweiz. " Includes stately frontispiece, a variety of intricate illustrations throughout, and a fold-out black-and-white illustration of a funeral. Ulrich was a Swiss Protestant theologian and historian. After his ordination in 1727 he studied Hebrew and the Talmud in Bremen under the Jewish apostate Gottlieb Fromann, and in Lengnau with Jacob Guggenheim. His missionary activities in Surbtal brought him into contact with the Jews of Endingen and Lengnau. In Sammlung Juedischer Geschichten. (Basle, 1768; repr. 1922) , the first comprehensive history of the Jews of Switzerland, he exonerates the Jews from complicity in causing the Black Death and from similar allegations, and urges the Swiss to treat them as equals. (EJ, Staff) OCLC lists two copies worldwide (Unisa: Muckleneuk Main Cam, Die Deutsche National Bibliothek) . Very minimal pencil markings that do not affect text. Virtually no stains. Some dust on cover boards. Very good + condition. (GER-23-1A)xx.
