Trade Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). Book club edition. Edges worn, small tear on bottom of spine. 1991 Trade Paperback. 255 pp. All for the Union is the eloquent and moving diary of Elisha Hunt Rhodes, featured throughout Ken Burns' PBS documentary The Civil War. Rhodes enlisted into the Union Army as a private in 1861 and left it four years later as a twenty-three-year-old colonel after fighting hard and honorably in battles from Bull Run to Appomattox. Anyone who heard these diaries excerpted in The Civil War will recognize his accounts of those campaigns, which remain outstanding for their clarity and detail. Most of all, Rhodes's words reveal the motivation of a common Yankee foot soldier, an otherwise ordinary young man who endured the rigors of combat and exhausting marches, short rations, fear, and homesickness for a salary of $13 a month and the satisfaction of giving "all for the union.

Trade Paperback. Condición: Near Fine. Farley, Ronnie - Cover Photography Ilustrador. First Edition First Printing Stated. 258 Pages. Tight square book with no marks or stamps. Interior text and illustration pages are flawless. When I'm dead and gone, I want to leave something. I want my granddaughter to be sitting someday talking like I talk about my grandmother. That's the kind of legacy I want to leave. I want my great-granddaughters, great-grandsons too, to say my great-grandma was a fighter. She did this and she did that to protect the land, to protect the culture, to protect the language, to maintain what we have left. The women have self-determination. The backbone of any struggle is the women. Ronnie Farley has combined evocative portraits of Native American women with their own reflections on womanhood and what it means to be a Native American. The result is a startlingly honest and often poetic work. The women within these pages defy stereotype: they are mothers, activists, artists, environmentalists, and community leaders. Whether living on reservations or in cities, they have struggled to preserve an ancient culture and a land under siege. For their daughters and ours, these women stand fast in the face of a world that views everything from forests to spirituality as disposable goods.
