Hardcover. Condición: Good. First Edition. Product DescriptionText and photographs depict the life of deaf fifth-grader Amy Rowley, who goes to a regular school and enjoys normal activities with the help of hearing aids and sign language. From School Library JournalGrade 2-6 Eleven-year-old Amy is an active, friendly girl who is deaf, as are her parents. Her brother John has normal hearing, as do many of her friends. This photographic story shows Amy in everyday routines with her family and friends at home and at school. While Walker does note Amy's differences such as her hearing aids, special teachers and use of sign, she stresses Amy's similarities to non-deaf children. Included are four pages of photos of Amy demonstrating signs. A list of resources to write to for further information about deaf people and activities is also included. Black-and-white photos are clear, descriptive and well-coordinated with the text. While this is not a new or different topic or approach, it is informative and inviting. Libraries already owning Anna's Silent World (Lippincott, 1977) or What Is the Sign for Friend? (Watts, 1985) may not need this book since they are similar in nature. Nancy A.
