Publicado por David McKay Company, Inc., /1952, 1st US printing, in red boards with white titles and thick pasted-on plate of all the animals surrounding all the good food on the white picnic cloth, "Blackberry Farm Books" appearing on top, title reversed on spine, plain endpapers, bright illustrations facing every page, last page with picture and text about the Farm; in thick robin's egg blue jacket with die-cut square exposing the plate, and dark blue titles, author/title/publisher on spine, plain flaps, description of the series, listed through "Naughty George" on the back as well as price (95¢). 5x5.5"; np., New York, 1955

/F. Stocks May, illustrator. Ilustrador. CONDITION: Very Good in Good Plus jacket; no names or other marks, straight, very light soil to some pages, and small pale pink corner to plate, in jacket with 1" flap missing from spine bottom, darkened spine and creases, jacket folding offset; 0.95 price. Small hardback. Mrs. Nibble, the mother rabbit, has a lovely birthday picnic given by the human mother in the story. All the animal friends from Blackberry Farm are there. Very bright clear colours, almost like pochoir. The UK Brockhampton series began in 1949 with Emily the Goat. The McKay US reprints are not in the same order. Following the first six Blackberry Farm books with green boards published in 1954 were two sets of three titles each with red boards published in 1955, (dates, from library records in Worldcat , may have appeared on later printings) The Birthday Picnic is one of the first set of three. As of this writing, we have eleven in jacket, ask. ABE Heritage Seller since 1996; conservative AB condition grading. We ship all our books in cardboard protection. International shipping. /F.
