Little, known for his dedication to the community as 'Mr. Artesia,' began working on two volumes of history: The Artesians: How It Began One Hundred Years Ago and The Artesians: Twenty Years of Incorporation. He gathered photographs and considerable narrative material, hoping that one day he would be able to share his historical knowledge and his love for the city with the rest of the community in a pictorial history. Sadly, while in the process of putting it together, he passed away. Nothing would have made him more proud than to have seen this project be completed and made available to the residents of Artesia. Veronica Little Bloomfield is Albert Little's daughter, and coauthor Veronica Elizabeth Bloomfield is his granddaughter. Together, they have honored his legacy of love and dedication by going through old pictures, talking about the faces and places that defined Artesia, and compiling these materials into a history. The images and words in this text come from Little's archives and the many friends and associates he had in this town over the years. Images of ranchos, farming, schools and homes, incorporation and consolidation, and of course, the Artesian wells for which the city was named, document the early agricultural community that was Artesia. 130 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Pioneer photographers Seneca Ray Stoddard and Jesse Sumner Wooley, along with other local professional and amateur photographers, visually recorded life at Lake George around the beginning of the twentieth century. With artistic clarity and astuteness, they created a pictorial diary of this well-known resort area, as our grandparents and great-grandparents would have known it. Many of the nearly two hundred images in Lake George have rarely been seen before and serve as more than a road map through the area's past. They capture life at natural moments. The clothing, the modes of transportation, and the recreation that were once quite common appear in page after page of breathtaking photographs and brilliant narrative. This pictorial history explores the bays and byways of the lake, its year-round residents, and the vacationers who made it their temporary home every summer. Replete with images of moments, hideaways, and people that no longer exist, Lake George is a new experience in an old familiar place. 130 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -For most, summers on the New Jersey shore were replete with warm, sandy days at the beach and cool, breezy nights at arcades on the boardwalk. Manasquan, with its quaint, tree-lined streets and hometown flavor, offered much more. To its visitors, who came from New York, Philadelphia, and everywhere in between, Manasquan was the quintessential seaside resort. To its residents, the town has always been the perfect place to live, work, and play. Manasquan Revisited, the second volume of Manasquan's photographic history, delightfully captures more rare moments from the past of this historic town. From shops along Main Street, to tours of Victorian homes, to the boats and docks along the Glimmer Glass, it is easy to see that Manasquan is a tranquil corner of yesterday's way of life. However, history can be dangerous as seen in the photographs of the famous hurricanes and northeasters of 1938, 1944, and 1962. The mighty Atlantic Ocean, in calmer moments, also provided a livelihood for the town's sea captains during the prosperous Victorian era. These and many more memories come alive through two hundred beautiful photographs and Mary Ware's interesting narrative. 130 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Pan American World Airways could be considered a corporate Cinderella--a rags-to-riches-and-back-again phenomenon. From its founding in 1927 and its relatively obscure inauguration as a mail carrier on a 90-mile mail run from Florida's Key West to Cuba, Pan Am's route system grew to span the globe. The company that would eventually become famous for its blue-and-white-world logo grew into a conglomerate of hotels, airlines, business jets, real estate, a helicopter service, and even a guided missiles range division. But financial problems plagued Pan Am in its last two decades, and in 1991, Pan American World Airways ceased flying after 64 years of service. The story of Pan Am is as much the story of president Juan T. Trippe as it is an account of airplanes, pilots, flight attendants, and glamorous destinations. As the company moved throughout the world building airfields from jungles, crossing oceans, and forcing the development of new airplanes, it was Trippe's airline and his vision. A global pioneer, Pan Am was the first airline to use radio communications, to employ cabin attendants and serve meals aloft, and to complete an around-the-world flight. The company's achievements were legendary, but its failures, tragedies, and disasters were also part of a complex corporate life. 130 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Since its establishment by Charlestown settlers in 1649, the city of Malden has reinvented itself many times. As a community of businesses and neighborhoods, it has long been known as a modern and forward-looking community. Throughout the centuries, Malden has inherited institutions developed by its wealthy and influential citizens. Much of this wealth came from the mills and factories, which were powered by the numerous rivers, streams, and ponds in the area. Ambitious businessmen spent their fortunes by constructing grand houses and facades, while innovative immigrants joined in the municipal spirit by chartering small, neighborhood businesses of their own. Because Malden concentrated on revolutionizing itself, the city has lost touch with much of its seventeenth and eighteenth century roots. The hidden treasures of Malden are evident throughout this exciting collection of rare photographs, documenting the history of the city. Readers will learn about the famous families of Malden, including the Converses, the Baileys, and the Davenports. Also inside are the stories and images of the people of the city, their struggles and achievements, and many of the landmarks and buildings that are no longer standing today. 130 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Scotsman Samuel Campbell's paper 'mill-on-the-burn' and the Native American-named 'short hills' were the origins of the area known today as Millburn and Short Hills. Millburn Township is recognized throughout the country for its natural beauty, ambiance, and fine schools. After the Revolutionary War, the locale changed from a rural area of farms to one dominated by paper and felt mills. With the development of the railroad community of Wyoming in the 1870s, the town again changed course. Soon thereafter, Stewart Hartshorn, inventor of the spring window shade, chose the town for his planned 'ideal community,' from which it evolved into the premier suburb it is today. 130 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Located in the heart of Eastern North Carolina, Washington is a city marked by its rich industrial heritage and the surrounding beauty of the Pamlico River and the fertile farmlands of Beaufort County. Washington, the county seat and original namesake of President Washington, grew during the 1800s to become one of the prominent shipping ports for lumber and a variety of agricultural produce. With the arrival of the railroads and the following economic hard times of Depression-era America, Washington's character changed dramatically, forcing many of the local mills and businesses to close. However, today, the city is experiencing a remarkable resurgence of business and opportunity and has again become a significant contributor in the economy of the state. Washington, North Carolina, consisting of over 200 stunning black-and-white photographs and postcards, allows readers a unique opportunity to explore their hometown as never before. As if stepping back in time, readers will experience the Washington of yesteryear, when the masts of commercial ships, like slender church steeples, dominated the waterfront, when the piercing whistles of trains entering and leaving the many lumber mills punctuated the city's daily activities, and when the sounds of horse-drawn wagons and early automobiles echoed throughout Main and Market Streets. This book also captures scenes of daily life: farmers laboring in the field and also meeting at Brooks Store to swap stories, gossip, and advice; people gathered on Main Street enjoying colorful parades; and children swimming at Whichard's Beach Campground and Marina in nearby Chocowinity. 130 pp. Englisch.
