Original o primera edición
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Contemporary vellum over boards, manuscript title to spine (in French); folio (215 x 335 mm); pp. [28] (title-pages in German and French, dedication and full-page engraving of coat of arms, table of contents, etc.), 301; plus 2 folding, 1 single-, and 79 double-page engraved plates. Complete. Text in two columns, in German and French. Vellum a little soiled and scuffed; some faint foxing throughout, though middle portion of text block is remarkably bright and clean; expert repair to bottom margin of first double-pate plate (title-p.), otherwise prelims and terminals just a little wrinkled along the edges, or occasionally cut close. An excellent copy of the first German edition of a stunning book on horsemanship. Based on "A New Method and Extraordinary Invention, to Dress Horses" (1667) an edited version of "General System of Horsemanship" (1658), the first book on formal horsemanship produced in Britain, also by Cavendish this massive work redefined the style and methods of the aristocratic horseman. Beautifully illustrated.
