Libro Original o primera edición
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition. Spine slightly cocked; some chipping and edgewear to dustjacket. From Whelen: "In the past I have written many technical books and magazine articles on arms and ammunition. All of these pertained, more or less, to material in common or successful use at the time they were written. These writings in places expressed certain opinions, formed at that time, which I have since found not to be altogether correct or complete when viewed in the light of the experience I have since gained. Recently, many of my friends have urged me to undertake one more book which would detail my experiences and experiments from the beginning of my career as a rifleman, and which would be more personal in character. They thought that some of my work, which I had related to them, would be both helpful and interesting to all students of the rifle. The preparation must be not only in material and personnel, but in the spirit, confidence and ability of each individual defender. No man is competent unless he is able to stalk alone and armed through the wilderness". Townsend Whelen was an American hunter, soldier, writer, outdoorsman, and rifleman. Whelen's great passion was the great outdoors and hunting, and he undertook many expeditions into the wilderness of both North and South America, living off the land, hunting and exploring. Apart from his professional interest in the rifle as a military weapon and competitive target shooting, he also experimented with rifles and cartridges in survival and wilderness applications, using the different loads in his hunting rifles to take both small and large game while on long hunting excursions in the wilds. The comprehensive knowledge and experience reflected in Whelen's writing covered the black powder era at the end of the 1800s and spanned the transitional period into smokeless arms, resulting in the modern high velocity rifles of the 20th century. Becoming increasingly hard to find.
