Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. Price in pencil on title page. Tony Wood: Collapse as Crucible While Russias anti-Putin demonstrations have prompted talk of a civic awakeningled by a flat-pack middle classthe countrys overall social landscape remains largely unmapped. Tony Wood surveys its shifting structures since the Soviet collapse, and the consequences of marketizations advance through the USSRs ruins. Nancy Fraser: On Justice Conceptions of justice drawn from Plato to Rawls, explored through analysis of a powerful novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. Who counts as a subject, and what strategies could enable those debarred from the sphere of justice to overturn their status? T. J. Clark: For a Left With No Future An epistle to capitalisms immobilized opponents from the author of Farewell to an Idea. Drawing on sources from Bruegel to Nietzsche, Hazlitt to Benjamin, T. J. Clark supplies notes for a rethinking of left politics that would recognize the impasses of the present and the horrific legacies of the past, while abandoning the mirages of futurity. Susan Watkins: Presentism? Reply to T.J. Clark Responding to Clark, Susan Watkins questions the adequacy of a perspective built upon mans propensity for violence, and defends a historicized politics of social transformation against the cramped horizon of the present. Ying Qian: China in the Frame Origins and mutations of the PRCs independent documentary movement. From vanguard to grass roots, and from passive observation of a country in flux to a politicized, activist cinema, turning its lens onto the workings of power. Julian Stallabrass: Digital Dissent A tonic for cyber-babble from the pages of Mute magazine, assessing the real impact of new technology on politics and cultural life. Can this valuable source of critique survive in a cold recessionary landscape?.

Original Wraps. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Jacket, as Issued. First Edition. Vol.1, No.6 - the sixth issue in the original series of the historic Poetry magazine, designed and edited by Tambimuttu - Enlarged First Anniversary Number. ***The first two printed pages are a black and white full-page photo illustration of Zwemmer's bookshop front window display of Ernest Hemingway's new book: "For Whom The Bell Tolls", and its review by R. Friedmann on the facing page on the inside front cover. ***Very good in the original thin cream, black and ochre-yellow printed stapled covers. Some marks to the covers commensurate with age and handling, but the covers are exceptionally clean. Staples rusted as usual. Internally also very good. Pages clean without any of the usual foxing. No tears. Would be described as near fine except for some bumping to the top corners of the covers and page block. There is also some offsetting to the first printed page (inside front cover) where a newspaper article seems to have been placed (since removed). Spine tight. ***48 pages (plus adverts on inside of covers) and still retains the original Poetry London subscription form at the back - "7/- for a year's subscription to POETRY (London)". 248mm x 185mm. ***Contents: Poem by Anne Ridler; Troll's Courtship by Louis MacNeice; In a Garden by Stephen Spender; A Letter to Nicholas Moore by G. No. 6 - the sixth issue of the original first series of this renowned poetry magazine, edited by Tambimuttu, published in May 1941 during the early years of the Second World War, in nice collectable condition. Of interest to collectors of poetry first editions, and the publications of Poetry London. ***The wartime issues of Poetry (London) magazine are now quite scarce in any condition, and this is a very clean copy, albeit creased at the top corner of the page block. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
