Hardcover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. E Fitch Daglish. Ilustrador. 1st Edition. This edition is illustrated from engravings on wood by E. Fitch Daglish. Quarter vellum printed in black, batik paper-covered boards, thick 4to., 367 pages, 16 mounted wood engravings of fish and birds on India paper, captioned tissue guards. Former owner's name signed upper right corner of first flyleaf, with Oxford 1941 penciled below. The spine is somewhat spotted, the board edges and tips show wear, some sunning and fading on front cover and marbled water damage line on front cover bottom right corner. Back cover is chipped along edge top and several scratches. A good copy with the plates and pages clean and fresh.

The Compleat Angler was first published in 1653 and John Major's edition was first published in 1823, this edition is reprinted from Major's edition of 1889.This volume is a lovely celebration of the art and spirit of fishing in prose and verse and is beautifully illustrated with engravings by E. Fitch Daglish.With fifteen plates and a frontispiece, which are engravings on wood.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart with some marks to the boards and spine and some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. With a previous owner inscription to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound with lightly age toned page which remain generally clean. Very Good. book.

Clean decorated endpapers with small custom bookplate on front pastedown. Pages and edges are clean. Edited by John Major. Illustrated from engravings on wood by E. Reprint of John Major's edition of 1889. 316pp. Small quarto [26 cm] 1/4 brown cloth with light brown paper over boards, a brown ink stamped title on the spine, and a black and white illustrated paper label mounted to the front board. Tan and black patterned endpapers. Good only. The underlying boards are exposed occasionally along the edges, with a large area exposed along the bottom edge of the front cover. The front hinge is going, the rear hinge is broken, and the text block is pulling away from the spine. The text block is also cracked at the beginning. There is a contemporary gift inscription on the half title page. All plates present. Izaak Walton's classic, Illustrated with engravings on wood by E. Fitch Daglish. Eric Fitch Daglish was a member of the Society of Wood Engravers, and today his wood engravings are housed in permanent collections of the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Art galleries of Liverpool and Manchester, and the Metropolitan Museum of New York, Boston and Philadelphia.
