The original green boards are in excellent shape, with corners straight and silver titling on the spine bright and clear. The creamy interior is fresh and completely clean. The original unclipped pictorial dust jacket shows very little wear. [Please see multiple images of the actual book.] "A novelist with a seething imagination and a piercing eye, [Valeriy] writes with humour and desperation of the events of his time and the conditions in his country, satirising what he sees as partly the result of local follies and partly as that of the folly of our age." Translator's note: "In the text the name of the principle character in each story is given in English. The hero of 'The Bluebottle' is Ivan Sinebryukhov (Ivan Bluebelly) who changes his name to Yoan Sinemukhov (John Bluefly); that of 'Red and Black' is Korneliy Abrikosov ('Cornelius Apricot'). The title 'Red and Black' is, of course, taken from the novel by Stendhal." Some edge wear and chipping to top and bottom of fab colourful jacket by John Gorham (1937-2001), corners rubbed and bruised, some slight yellowing and time staining to back jacket and page fore edges, not price clipped (16s), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and almost square, overall a vg copy for its age. 188pp. Two stories scathingly critical of the Soviet Union and commuinist regime. By Valery Yakovlevich Tarsis (1906-83). He was a Ukrainian writer, literary critic, and translator. He was highly critical of the communist regime. A highly topical book.
