Hardback. The quarter leather binding has some rubbing and fading, it is sound. The pastedown has a prize plate. The title page has an embossed stamp. The text is clean throughout, the plates have some light foxing. This second edition ' contains so me additions and alterations; and it is hoped that the Illustrations will be found to be a considerable improvement on those of its predecessor.' Illustrated, x + [6] + 384 + 36.

Full Leather. Condición: Near Fine. Second Edition. NF, 2nd ed, 1875, 51 illustrations (5 coloured). In a superb full black morocco, elaborate blind tooling, gilt Royal coat of arms (VR), edges brushed. Spine. raised bands, blind tooling, tiles in gilt, edges brushed. Internally, half title, frontis, [5], (vi-x), [6], [1], 2-384 pp, 51 illustrations (16 being full page, 5 of which are coloured), marbled endpapers, text block edges in red, blind stamp at head of tp (DEpartment of Science and Art). A lovely binding. Tyrwhitt, who in addition to his writings on art, published a number of sermons, theological tracts, and a novel, Hugh Heron, Ch. Ch.: an Oxford Novel (1880). See ODNB.
