Hardback. Condición: Good to Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair to good. First Edition. 1936. First edition. New edition. 352pp., 300 coloured illustrations, 8 photographic reproductions, and 52 text figures. This book, based upon the standard work The Birds of the British Isles by T.A. Coward, is a reliable guide to British birds. The descriptions of species are accompanied by accurately coloured plates. The work has been edited by Enid Blyton who has written introductory chapters on the general habits and characteristics of birds. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board with a small illustration on the front board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with noticeable patchy damp fading to both boards. The spine is faded with light bumping to the spine ends and a very small bot of damage to the cloth on the spine corners. The contents are tight and clean with an article from the R.S.P.B. on Ospreys in Speyside taped in between pages 184 and 185 (the tape is old and browned). A name has been written on the front fixed endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has a design by Clifford Webb on the fropnt and spine and is in fair to good condition. It has shelf wear with soiling and some staining and the spine is browned. Small pieces are missing from the corner tips and bottom spine corners and about 1/4" to 1/2" is missing from the top of the spine. Larger pieces are missing from the front spine edge and a 1/2" x 1 1/2" piece is missing from near the middle of the rear spine edge. There are old tape repairs on the back of the wrapper around the corners, down the spine edges and around the spine ends. The tape repairs have caused staining to the wrapper, some of which can partly be seen on the front. The wrapper is in an old removeable clear plastic cover.
