Hardcover. Condición: VG+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: VG. Photos, Maps Ilustrador. 1st. When this book was published Amiria Stirling was more that 80 years old and in it she recalls her early life on the East Coast, as well as her latter years experiences. Her story was related to Anne Salmond in a series of tape recorded interviews which were translated into print, while retaining Amiria's narrative style. In her childhood she lived in a raupo hut with her grandmother, and also experienced the relative grandure and European trappings in the household on the Williams family property. The story tarkes readers through Amiria's younger days, up to the time of her "arranged" marriage to Eruera Stirling in 1918, through their married life and farming on the "Coast" and World War II before she and husband Eruera moved to Auckland, where they became leaders in the Maori community, with their home a focal point. Apart from the autobiographical aspect, Amiria's story contains details of East Coast Maori lore and traditions with partuicular insights into their belifs and culture. "Amiria" was a prize winner in the 1977 NZ Book of the Year Awards. First edition from Reed of 1976, 184 pages including two appendices, bibliography and index, intext b/w photographs throughout, three maps. Black hard covers with gilt spine titles are VG+, ink gift inscription and former name etc top FFEP, text block otherwise excellent, no inscriptions. Colour pictorial DJ is VG with light sunning to spine area, short tear top edge at spine.
