Octavo, six illustrations by R. James Williams, original blue cloth, spine stamped in black. First edition. After publishing several successively enlarged editions of his first collection of stories through Stockwell (the vanity publisher), the author published these seventeen new stories himself as a separate book, adding "2nd Series" to the title. Thompson later put out an omnibus edition of his ghost stories in the 1960s, which is a common book, but these early editions are quite uncommon. Many of the stories are set in the eighteenth century, a period about which the author wrote nonfiction as well. "Not as badly done as one might suppose, but lacking the skill of a professional storyteller." - Robert Knowlton. A fine copy in fine pictorial dust jacket. (#118955).
