This excellent publication, the work of a three person editorial board, plus a number of other contributing historians, explores the development of Rotorua from the 1830s, althougth the main focus is on the 100 years from 1880. Rororua is famed for the Pink and White Terraces, lost in the Tarawera eruption of 1886 and this is well covered here, as are Maori cultural attractions, trout fishing, thermal activity and many other notable features. A well-rounded publication which touches every historical base. First edition of 1980 of 223 pages including bibliography and index, b/w photos, art, sketches, maps etc throughout.
