The coarse blue cloth binding is clean and unworn, with immaculate gilt lettering to the spine. Everything is square and tight, with sharp unbumped edges and corners. Inside there are no ownership inscriptions or other markings of any kind. The dust jacket is unclipped (7s 6d.), and shows only light wear. It would be classed as near fine if it were not for a large piece missing from the back. Please see associated images. It is now protected in a removable mylar cover.

A detailed account of the East Africa Campaign during the period covered by the command of Field Marshal Jan Christian Smuts, a South African statesman, military leader and philosopher who served as prime minister of the Union of South Africa. Written by John Johnston Collyer, a South African soldier with the Cape Mounted Riflemen who saw operational deployments during the South Africa War and the two African campaigns of the First World War. With a foreword by Field Marshal Jan Christian Smuts. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. A small crease resulting in a closed tear to page xv.
