Condición: Gut. 675 pages with 800 Illustrations by Sir John Gilbert, R. A., Zustand: Buch mit altersgemäß stärkeren Gebrauchsspuren. Schnitt gebräunt, sauber. Einband stark berieben und insbesondere an den Ecken sehr stark bestoßen. Papier altersbedingt leicht gebräunt, sauber und ohne größere Beschädigungen. Seite 63/64 hat sich zur 2/3 aus der Bindung gelöst, sonst ist die Bindung noch intakt. Buchrücken intakt. Namenseintrag im Vorsatz. Bound with a golden tied thread that pierces the spine fold three times. Cover illustration in color and others by Fred Hines, plus additional illustrators identified by initials only. This edition is not dated, but thought to be 1890 or 1888, and published in New York. WorldCat, searched on 11/14/2021, showed one copy associated with New York, and two copies with London. Uniform matching hard back binding in publisher's original Brunswick green cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt backs, elaborate gilt vignette to the front boards, blind tools to the rear, all page edges gilt, lemon end papers. Quarto 12'' x 10''. Contains 36 tipped-in chromolithograph coloured plates and 36 full page monochrome pictures on thick card stock with hundreds of text monochrome illustrations throughout. Repaired tear to front hinge and top of the spine to volume IX, contents of all nine volumes neatly hand written to the front free end paper of volume IX, some surface marks to the front boards of three volumes, occasional finger marks, without any foxing or age toning to the paper. Shelfwear: light scuffing along edges and covers, a few volumes have their spines lightly cocked, heavy foxing on first and last few page leafs of every volumes, foxing along page edges of every volume. All volumes are tightly bound, no marks. Set is in Very Good condition.
