Uniform matching hard back binding in publisher's original Brunswick green cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt backs, elaborate gilt vignette to the front boards, blind tools to the rear, all page edges gilt, lemon end papers. Quarto 12'' x 10''. Contains 36 tipped-in chromolithograph coloured plates and 36 full page monochrome pictures on thick card stock with hundreds of text monochrome illustrations throughout. Repaired tear to front hinge and top of the spine to volume IX, contents of all nine volumes neatly hand written to the front free end paper of volume IX, some surface marks to the front boards of three volumes, occasional finger marks, without any foxing or age toning to the paper.
