Softcover. Condición: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 118 Seiten - Gerhard Richter. Bücher is the first publication that exclusively addresses Gerhard Richter's artist's books. Starting with a brief introduction to the history of the genre, Dieter Schwarz proceeds to analyse Richter's diverse publications, which don't necessarily stand out with extravagant covers, but are versatile in dealing with different subjects and their presentation. The aspect of reproduction and the processing of graphical material, which plays a crucial role in Richter's works in general, can also be found in most of his books. Schwarz adjudges Eis and Wald a special status, as they are not derived from image details like War Cut or Patterns, but consist of independent series of pictures. In the interview with Richter, Hans Ulrich Obrist, who also collaborated with him on a number of books, discusses the artist's books chronologically and raises detailed questions about the development and context of all of Richter's publications. The interviewer talks to Richter about his ideals and guiding principles in painting. Obrist is mainly interested in the structure and arrangement of the books, which demonstrate a carefully conceived composition.

Illustrated with photos in black and white. Translated from the German by David Britt. Born in Dresden in 1932, Gerhard Richter studied wall-painting at the socialist Dresdner Akademie, before settling in Dusseldorf in 1961. It was here that he began painting from photographic sources, a method which by his own admission allowed him to make a stand against the academies and the oppressive prototypes of the time, from which he had to free himself to find his own innovative creative style. Central to his work is a strong set of values and ideas which throughout his career he has expressed in notes and writings. In these texts he views his work and his surroundings, reflecting on the spiritual basis of his paintings, on his own role as artist, and on the nature of art itself. This book presents a selection of these writings, accompanied by illustrations of pictures from both private collections and from the studio. Hardcover. Condición: Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Heavy cloth, with debossed title stamped in black on cover, no dust jacket as issued. Paintings by Gerhard Richter. Edited and with a foreword by Hans-Ulrich Obrist. Essays (in English) by Birgit Pelzer and Guy Tosatto. Designed by Gerhard Richter and Gabriele Sabolewski. 156 pp. with 103 four-color plates, beautifully printed by Dr. Cantz'sche Druckerei, Ostfildern-Ruit. 8-5/8 x 6-3/4 inches. Fine. From Gerhard Richter: "You must believe in what you do. You must be deeply committed in order to paint. Once you become obsessed your conviction becomes so deep that in the end you are able to believe that humanity can be transformed by painting. But once this passion abandons you, there is nothing left to do. At that point it is better to forget about it, for, deep down, painting is complete idiocy." From the publisher: "Concerned with the relationship between painting and the technologically mediated image of photography, Gerhard Richter is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest living artists. With a brush that deftly and romantically captures abstract details and blurred newspaper images alike, he has transformed our understanding of art in the age of photographic reproduction and mass-media imagery.100 Pictures presents Richter's output from an intensive period of work between 1995-96. Though this period mainly saw the production of abstract works, it also begat a cycle of eight small-format paintings of an intimate, private nature, which portray his young wife Sabine as a Madonna-and-child. 100 Pictures is an extraordinary document of contemporary art.".

Textes de Dieter Schwarz et de Georges Didi-Huberman. Biographie. (In english). « This extensive monograph is the first to present the complete range of the numerous works Richter realized as series, cycles and spaces. It includes figurative paintings, such as landscapes, still lifes and portraits, many of which are based on photographs, such as the series S. and Child, a personal and intimate variation on the traditional subject of the Madonna and Child. It also features abstract works, for which Richter draws from a changing repertoire of forms and colors to produce both small and monumental paintings. » Etat neuf / As new (envoi suivi sous emballage pro).

Hardcover. Condición: New. [ART]. Larry Gagosian, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Gerhard Richter. "Gerhard Richter: Cage Paintings." New York: Gagosian Gallery, 2021. English language. Hardcover. 12.25 x 10.5 in. 31 x 26.5 cm. 92 pp. Text clean. New. ISBN: 9781951449063."Characterized by their large scale and concentrated materiality, Richterâ??s six Cage paintings (2006) are composed of intersecting lines, fields, and swaths of color applied with a broad squeegee. The paintings are titled after influential composer, artist, and philosopher John Cage (1912â??1992), whose music Richter was listening to when he produced the series. Shown alongside the Cage paintings is a group of abstract drawings Richter made in a single, characteristically intensive working session during the summer of 2020. In addition to reproductions of the works and installation photography of both exhibitions, the catalogue features an introduction by Larry Gagosian and a conversation between the artist and Hans Ulrich Obrist, artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries in London.".
