Original half burgundy cloth over printed paper covered boards, with gold lettering to spines, and dark blue lettering to front covers. Volumes 3 and 4 of a series which recorded the results of explorations in Egypt planned and financed by Mr. Eckley B. Coxe, Junior, of Philadelphia. By an agreement made with the University of Pennsylvania in 1907, the expedition was to be conducted for five years on behalf of the University, and the antiquities obtained would be presented to the University Museum. Illustrated with no less than 120 leaves of plates, this 2-volume set is devoted to the exposure, processing and recording of archaeological remains at the Romano-Nubian cemetery of Karanòg, a Kushite town in Lower Nubia, on the west bank of the Nile. The town was probably a provincial capital under its own peshto (governor) in the second and third centuries AD. It was excavated between 1907 and 1910 by the authors of this work. Ex-library copy, with stickers at tail of spines and upper left corner of front covers, bookplate on inside of each front cover, and library pocket on inside of each back cover. Library stamps at top and bottom edges. Bindings rubbed along edges. Binding in overall good, interior in very good condition.
