Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. VG. Wrappers very good overall, with only a hint of toning, although insides of wraps are significantly toned. Uncreased spine is somewhat faded and a bit rubbed, albeit still clearly legible. No names, underlining, highlighting, or marks internally. No dogears, though the top corner of the first page (the only leaf prior to the title page) is creased down and has been so since the book was bound; bending it back up proves that its edges exceed the designed format of the book, so it was already creased when the pages were cut and is not, therefore, an acquired defect. The pages themselves have only very light toning for their age and are still easily read. A Polish-Jewish playwright's "widely heralded, often zany, frequently touching account of his years as an unintentional refugee in Soviet Russia during World War II." Perlov fled Warsaw on foot, heading to Kovel, but discovered upon arriving that during the time he had spent in reaching it, Hitler and Stalin had decided Kovel was no longer Polish but Soviet territory. The chaos of war beset him, with more than his fair share of bizarre and hilarious turns. The laudatory Introduction is by Isaac Bashevis Singer.
