The unconventional Wright was a friend of Lafayette and Robert Owen, and advocated the abolition of capital punishment, miscegenation as the solution of the race problem, equality for women, a national system of education, and other radical causes. She founded the short-lived Nashoba community in Tennessee as an experiment with the emancipation of slaves through a system of cooperative labor.
