1p., 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged paper. He thanks him for his letter, stating that it will be 'a great pleasure to look forward to staying at the Abbey House', and hopes that, 'in spite of the malignant perversity of trains', he will 'get to Tewkesbury at 4.16'.

Manuscrito
4pp., 12mo. Good, on aged paper, with one small spot at head of first page. He feels sure that 'if Canon Creighton [Mandell Creighton, then Canon of Worcester] could be persuaded to undertake the Lectures he would do the work far better and far more worthily than I can hope to do it', but he does not know Creighton well enough to ask him to take his place. 'And so, in view of your letter, I think that I had better look forward to coming and doing my best: though I greatly fear that the work may be less thoroughly prepared than it shold be'. If he is to come he suggests an alteration to the arrangements. Somewhat disingenuously, considering the fact that his sister Catherine is married to him, he suggests as another replacement 'one Parish Priest in your own diocese' who is 'most fit to bear such a trust - Mr. H. L. Thompson, of Iron Acton'. He praises Thompson for his 'ten years continuous experience, his good ability and wide knowledge', which would 'give the very highest Value to his Lectures, if only you could persuade him to come'. He knows 'no one whose judgement & goodness seem to me more trustworthy than his'. If Thompson cannot come Paget will do his best, 'if all is well'.
Cloth. Condición: Good. Not Stated Ilustrador. A charming fairy tale by the Reverend Paget, warning children against selfishness. 'The Hope of the Katzekopes' was written by Reverend Paget with the intention of guiding young minds towards a more wholesome morality, as the author believed that this was lacking in other fiction at the time. It was intended to exercise empathy in children, and to guide them away from selfishness. Written by Reverend Francis Edward Paget, who was the chapplain to the bishop of Bath and Wells, and who restored Elford Church. Some of his other works include 'Lucretia', 'The Pageant', 'Tales of the Village Children', and 'Some Records of the Ashtead Estate and of its Howard Possessors'. With six illustrated head pieces throughout. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound. Light dampstaining to the boards, causing discolouration. A couple of light markings to the boards. Minor sunning to the spine. Small amount of bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Rear hinge is strained. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown, '1898'. Prior owner's tidy sketching of the Union Jack to the font pastedown. Light offsetting to the recto to the front endpaper and to the verso to the rear endpaper. Prior owner's label to the verso to the front endpaper, 'John & Christie Dore, 18 Whitehall, Watchet, Somerset, TA23 0BD'. Prior owner's ink inscription to the half title page, 'To . McClitock with . love 5th of Dec 1914'. Internally, generally firmly bound, though strained in places. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot and handling mark. Textblock from pages 17 to 96 have been cut to the bottom to the fore edge. Puncture mark through the textblock, however not affecting text. Page 1/2 is lifting but remains attached. Small chip to the head of page 35/36. Last line on page 159, 'And so my story ends', has scoring marks around it with attempted removal, and is lifting from the bottom. Good. book.
