First edition in English, first printing. "Published in Warsaw, 1939" statement to the copyright page. This translated mystery was later published in 1944 by the Thriller Book Club. The Polish author of ALIBI features clever Inspector Bernard Zbik of the Polish State Police pitting wits with a killer who murders with the motive of challenging the intellect, methods, and science of the police, in this clue filled detecting mystery. Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. HARDBACK - A near very good book, tightly bound in the publisher's black cloth boards with silver lettering to the spine. The boards are clean but with a little bumping to the corners. Pushing to the spine tips. Internally, the pages are generally clean, but there is a diagonal chip to the corner of page eleven with a one inch closed tear to page thirteen. There is also what looks like fish moth damage to the base of around five pages. the loss is shallow but visible. Free of any previous owner names or inscriptions. The neatly price clipped dust wrapper is also in near very good condition with chipping to the spine tip, also to the corners of the front and rear flap folds. There is paper reinforcement to the verso of the dust wrapper. Both the book and dust wrapper are the scarce UK first edition published by Macdonald in 1939 to wartime economy standards.
