Grey Cloth Hardback. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Edition. 1951. First edition. 32pp. and a frontispiece followed by 64 black and white plates. Paul Nash (1889-1946) was a British surrealist painter and war artist, as well as a photographer, writer and designer of applied art. Nash was among the most important landscape artists of the first half of the twentieth century. He played a key role in the development of Modernism in English art. Some years before his death Nash became interested in the possibilities of the camera as an aid to his notes and rough sketches which he had made throughout his life from the scene before him. In the opinion of professional photographers these 'notes' recorded by the camera show how Nash made the machine serve his aesthetic purpose. After an introduction by James Laver and notes on the photographs, this book contains 64 of Nash's photographs taken between 1931 and 1946. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and blind-stamped facsimile signature on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping and some fading to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with the name 'Haig' written on the front free endpaper (this copy is from the library of the artist Dawyck Haig RSA, 2nd Earl Haig). The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and rubbing with some creasing along the top edge. Up to about 1/4" is missing from the bottom spine corners and a piece of up to about 1" is missing from around the top front spine corner with 1/2" missing from the rest of the top of the spine.
