Provenance: This book is from the library of Enid Marx (1902-1998), designer and pattern maker, who is best known for her textile designs used on London Transport buses and trains. Her archive and library were donated to the Victoria and Albert Museum, with the stipulation that books that she had not been personally involved with, could be sold to support the cataloguing and conservation of the archive. This is one of those books. It comes with a printed sheet with this information and a unique hand drawn bookmark, featuring a lovely original cat drawing by her. Published by John Weatherhill, inc, New York, and Heibonsha, Tokyo. Originally published in Japanese by Heibonsha under the title Mingei in the Nihon no Bijutsu series. First English Edition 1973. Printed in Japan. A very good hardback with pictorial paper over boards, with gilt to spine. Just a little sun toned along the top edge of covers. With a very good dustjacket, slightly sun-faded to spine. Text is in near fine condition. Just one slight rubbing mark where w previous bookseller's price has been erased to the first free endpaper. Lovely and bright. All soundly bound. An attractive publication. 164pp + 2pp. Copiously illustrated throughout. Text in English. Dimensions: approx 238mm high x 185mm wide x 17mm deep.
