Pages are moderately tanned and foxed throughout, heavier at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Hinges are cracked with exposed netting. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Gilt lettering is bright and clear.

The text is illustrated with 12 half - tone plates and five text drawings, by various artists. Maroon coloured boards with gilt writing on the spine. Red coloured tint to the top text block edge and other edges are uncut. This book was produced to help the war wounded after World War I, and includes prose, literary and poetical contributions by P.G. Wodehouse; Vita Sackville-West; Sapper; W.H. Davies; Belloc; Chesterton; Kipling; Churchill; Aldous Huxley. The corners are bumped and rubbed and slightly frayed. There is fading and rubbing to the panels and the head and heel of spine are soft and bumped. There is sending staying halfway down the front panel closest to the spine gutter. The cloth is somewhat dusty as well. Foxing has commenced on the paper edges which has then intruded into the internal pages. Foxing most noticeable on the first few and last few pages of the book. Booksellers sticker on the front paste down, and previous owners name on the ffep. Second impression of the First Edition. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). The Prince of Wales, who invited the contributors, this anthology includes short works by John Galsworthy, Winston S. Churchill, Aldous Huxley, P.G. Wodehouse, G.K. Chesterton, Edith Sitwell, Rebecca West, V. Sackville-West, and others. Laid in is a printed note reading "By the wish of H.M. The King all proceeds go to the British Legion as Thankoffering for His Majesty's Recovery." Red cloth binding, with gilt lettering. A bit of mottling along the spine, with a homemade repair to the bottom corner of the front board. The dust jacket is browned, moreso along the spine and folds, with a four-inch triangular piece missing from the top of the front panel, a few large chips, and some lengthy tears, which are repaired with tape on both the recto and verso. Still, a presentable copy.

Oliver Simon helped Minchin to edit it and was responsible for the elegant Lutetia type. Literary contributors included John Galsworthy, Arnold Bennett, P.G. Wodehouse, Winston Churchill, Vita Sackville-West and Walter de la Mare. 100 copies were bound in full vellumized pigskin and held in the gift of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales.
