Wrappers showing some mild creasing and wrinkling. One small spot of soiling to back wrapper. Minor tearing at head and heel of spine, with a bit of paper loss, but no impact to binding. Sewn signatures are still strong. Stamp from US Infantry Association to ffep (see photo). No other writing or marks. Pages are moderately toned, but not dry at all. Map insert attached to the inside of the back wrapper is present and intact, with no tearing.

Eliot Grinnell Mears (1889 - 1946) had been the American Trade Commissioner at Athens and at Constantinople and at the time of writing was part of the American Mitilary Mission to Armenia and Transcaucasia. A signed presentation copy to his secretary Arnold J. Nelson; also containing the author's visiting card introducing Nelson to Yoshio Ichikawa. A very nice copy of the first edition in the publisher's red cloth.
