"The romance of Theuerdank was written by Melchior Pfintzing, under Maximilian's direction, to celebrate his wooing of Mary of Burgundy and other exploits. The bulk (seventy-seven) of the illustrations in it are now ascribed to Beck, seventeen to Schaufelein, thirteen to Burgkmair, and three, two, and one respectively to Schon, Traut, and Breu.".
