Trade Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Tenth Printing. 175 Pages. This book began as an itch, a nagging annoyance that we wanted to do something about. The annoyance: Our doctoral students had few useful, comprehensive texts to help them work through the difficult, tedious, and exciting process of framing a qualitative research study. The remedy: Write a document that would guide students through the phases of that process. The initial idea has grown and changed. This book is intended to be a guide for anyone interested in designing a qualitative study. Established researchers, graduate students, program managers, and policy analysts will find the book useful in conceptualizing and thinking through the facets of a solid research project. While many of the examples used are from education, social scientists from a number of disciplines should find the text helpful. The authors' relationship began as one of professor and student. As a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania in the mid-1970s, Gretchen Rossman was searching for an approach to inquiry that was systematic yet allowed the researcher to get close to the people being studied, to understand the world as they saw it. Catherine Marshall arrived as a new assistant professor of educational administration with extensive training in field research methods. The relationship grew as we shared the excitement of teaching qualitative methods and the delight in learning about them.
