An exploration of the Red River of Texas and Louisiana. Marcy includes descriptions of the Indians encountered, wildlife, plant life, scenery, attached waterways and lakes, and appendicies of the courses and distances charted, minerals, fossils, animals, plants, and Indian languages. Wagner-Camp 226: "Marcy knew the plains, and all his books are filled with most interesting and useful information. This journal is remarkable for its intimate observations, extending beyond the geographical limits of the report." Bookplate of American author and editor, Edward D.
