A reissue of the 1922 edition, published in the 1950's.

Wyeth, originally issued in 1917, with the story itself adapted & "edited for boys" from the classic tales of Sir Thomas Malory by S. Lanier. Hardcover book has brown cloth-covered boards with slightly faded gilt lettering to spine & a colorful front pastedown, frontispiece, & 13 full-page, full-color, internal illustrations (all intact) by N. C. Wyeth. Condition is solidly VG: very clean with the occasional spot or smudge. Binding straight & strong, hinges intact. Pages show moderate-heavy tanning, but are still supple. Old gift inscription dated 1937 & another former owner's signature from 1953 on ffep, else unmarked. Modest rubbing to extremities, bumped corners. Torn triangular area in the lower left corner of the front pastedown & looks like some pencil scribbles in title box; else, bright & colorful with minimal edgewear! Extremely mild rubbing to extremities, heaviest at corners & both ends of spine. This copy has its original DJ, which is bright & colorful, but downgraded to only G+ due to edgewear, including minor chips & creases; looks nice protected in new mylar cover. Black cloth-covered boards with pastedown of Wyeth illustration of two knights in battle on front cover. Hinges are loosening but intact; binding is firm. Corners are bumped, spine caps are softened; spine is faded. Scratches to back cover. There is a 1/2-inch inkspot on front edge of text block. Former owner's name and address verso front board and on FFE; his first name appears again on verso of rear board. With these exceptions, pages are unmarked.

Pictorial endpapers. Some wear to extremities, short split to top outer rear hinge, some slight scuffing to cover illustration. In its priced ($2.50) pictorial dust jacket with applied paper colour illustration of jousting knights - a blue and yellow striped tent in background. Repaired small chip to head of dj spine, but a very nice copy in it original pictorial dust jacket. Cover and dust jacket illustrations, striking frontispiece of King Arthur and nine full page colour plates all by N. C. Wyeth. The copyright slug on the verso of the title is dated 1917, beneath is the Scribner seal. This popular title was reprinted a number of times. This one still has all the illustrations in colour. And the different editions seem to vary in the illustrations used on the cover and jacket.
