Service, the poet of the Gold Rush, wrote: "One of the best descriptions of the Trail that I have come across". Joaquin Miller in the Gold Rush. A near fine copy bound in black cloth, spine lettering gilt, in a black unclipped pictorial dust jacket accented in white and yellow, wear to spine ends and corners, rear panel lightly rubbed. Martinsen on the front free endpaper. Ethel Dassow. Ethel Dassow edited the pieces in this book that appeared originally in serial form from 1951 to 1954 in Alaska Sportsman magazine. In addition a small signed piece of paper by Edward B Long is attached on the title page. The DJ has some rubbing on the spine and some edges. Now in a clear protective sleeve. The black cloth boards are nice with just a slight bit of wear. At the bottom of the inside of the rear board is an address label from Ella L. Martinsen.The hinges and the spine are good. 419 pages. The inside pages are bright and look unmarked. All the black and white photograph illustrations that are called for are present throughout the book. Signed by Author(s).

His diary of that search informs this first-hand account that is Black Sand and Gold. Lung paints a vivid picture of Dawson at the height of its prosperity with its gamblers, prostitutes, cutthroats, Indians, Mounties and desperadoes.
