Hardcover. Condición: Very Good-. First Edition. 247pp, blue cloth boards with titles in gold on spine and Gross's facsimile signature in gold on front board. No dust jacket. Shelfwear to bottom spine ends, and to a lesser degree to the top as well. Corners are square with only slight raveling of cloth. Tan/manila endpapers. Title page detached and re-attached with tape. Signed by Gross, with a drawing of two women, and inscribed, "To my dear friend Max" and dated December 16, 1955. Toning to pages, but primarily to pages containing text rather than those containing the 142 black and white plates. Gross was primarily a sculptore. He called New York home for seventy years, until his death in 1991, and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1984.

Judi Noselson, nee Lesnow (1933-2003), was the wife of Kalman Noselson. The pair amassed a sizeable and very respectable collection of art during their years together. A VG copy without the jacket: lightly faded at the spine, rounded corners, solid hinges & joints, clean text and illustrations, a small nick to the fore-edge of the first several leaves, a light bump to the head of several later leaves. Extra postage may be asked. Signed by Illustrator(s).

Inscribed on the title page with a handsome sketch of a sculpture: "To my very dear friends Nat and Elsie with love, Chaim Gross." Gross's pen apparently ran out as he was signing his name, so he started over with a new pen. Lombardo's signature appears underneath.
