Hardcover. Condición: Very Good +. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The Fanfrolico Press, London, UK. 1929. Hardcover. First Edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Very Good +; bumping to tips; light shelfwear to head, tail, and tips; waviness to pages probably from binding as book shows no evidence of moisture. No DJ. Blue cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine. Clean internals. Internal hinges are sound and not split. Gilt textblock top. 496 pp [iv index] 4to; 5-B&W Plates. The London Aphrodite was a literary magazine which existed between 1928 and 1929. It is known for its founders Jack Lindsay and P. R. Stephensen. It was described as an example of micro-modernist publications. In the first issue it was announced that there would be only six issues of The London Aphrodite. The same issue also contained a manifesto in which the editors attacked another British magazine entitled The London Mercury and its literary approach. Cover page of the each issue was printed in different colours (which are not in this bound volume) and it was published on a bimonthly basis not for profit, but for the fun of it. Some of the contributors were Liam O'Flaherty, Robert Nichols, Kenneth Slessor, Pittendrigh Macgillivray and Stanley Snaith. The final issue of The London Aphrodite appeared in July 1929. A Sign of the Mermaid sticker is present on the front pastedown which is probably original as the first and last pages of the book have mermaid illustrations. A clean very presentable copy.
