Libro Original o primera edición
Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. vii+256 pages with tables and diagrams. Octavo (8 3/4" x5 3/4") bound in green limp leather with spine label. From the library of Gaspar Soria (Bibliotheca van der Linde-Niemeijeriana: 5200) First edition. Vienna, one of Europe's great cities, famous for desserts, opera and chess. The Vienna chess club was founded in 1857 and had its first major tournemnt in 1873 in conjunction with the Vienna Exhibition. The system was that each player played a small match of three games with the other and the match had to be finished within the space of three days. A won match was worth 1 point and a drawn match half a point. Blackburne led untill the last round, buth the lost to Rosenthal and had to play a further deciding match with Steinitz which the latter won 2 - 0, so that Steinitz won first and blackburne took second prize. Pitschel withdrew early on, so many of his losses were by default. After Blackburne was Anderssen and then Rossenthal. This was the first of many famous chess tournaments sponsored by the Vienna Chess club. Gaspar Darwin Soria ( -2006) was an active member of the both FIDE and ICCF from Argintina. Condition: Stamp to tile, Garspar Soria's stamp to title with his address, pages age darkened, spine heavily rubbed else about very good. .
