Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. Lawrence, John Ilustrador. First Edition. Embark on a literary exploration with "The Happy Captive" by Francisco Núñez de Pineda y Bascuñán, a captivating novel set in the context of Spanish colonization in 17th-century Chile. Originally published in 1775, this hardcover first thus edition, presented by The Folio Society of London in 1977, is a Fine/VG++ collectible. The canvas-covered boards feature a striking sketch of a spear-bearing man on horseback, while maroon leatherette and gold spine-bands enhance its aesthetic appeal. In excellent condition, the covers display minimal wear, with light rubbing to the spine ends. The square and tight binding ensures durability, and the interior pages are pristine, offering a clean and unmarked reading experience. The book is accompanied by a Good+ slipcase, exhibiting a stained corner on the upper front, while the rest remains in good shape."The Happy Captive" unfolds the story of Catalina, a young woman captured by the indigenous Mapuche people. Within the narrative, themes of cultural clash, identity, and resilience are explored, providing a nuanced perspective on the encounters between Spanish colonizers and indigenous communities. This edition, translated by William C. Atkinson and featuring vinyl cuts by John Lawrence, offers additional artistic elements, enhancing the overall reading experience.
