Hardcover. Condición: Used: Acceptable. Condition, clean, writing on fore page, pages slightly tanned, dust jacket has fading. The Double Perspective of Yeats's Aesthetic offers penetrating insights into the poet's aesthetic principles. These are characterised, Professor Komesu demonstrates, by a polarity of perspective. He argues that Yeats envisaged life as both unity and conflict, and regarded art as an embodiment of both experience and knowledge. The peculiar nature of this Yeatsian polarity is that the conflicting perspectives are not irreconcilably at war, but exist in a complementary relationship, in which one lives the other's death, and dies the other's life. Professor Komesu finds this polarised perspective inherent in the literary theory of the West, constituting a discernible tradition that shapes such divergent artistic movements as Classicism and Romanticism. He contends that Yeats's place must be found within this tradition.

Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. No Jacket. First Edition. A very good copy of the presumed first hard cover edition (no explicit edition or printing statement) in a clear protective cover and cardboard slipcase. Save for the page number of one essay circled in pencil in the table of contents and a parenthetical note in pencil on that page [ 57 ] to the effect that Chotoku Higa was the owner's "elder brother" the text, which is in English and Japanese, is wholly unmarked, pristine, and the binding bright and fresh in appearance. Essays include: Geist's "Current Linguistic Change," Mead's :The Lyceum and American Culture," Higa's "Pessimism in Twain's What Is Man?"; Komesu's "Yeats and the Noh," Matsuda's"The Development in Transformational Grammar with Emphasis on the Treatment of Meaning," Nakachi's "The Study of Huckleberry Finn," Nakaima's "An Acoustic Tone Analysis of the Naha Dialect," Senaha's "On An Essay on Man," and Yagi's "Emerson's Dialectic Use of Hindu Thought." 362 pp. A brilliant copy.
